2013 Mayoral race full of potentials ‘strongly considering’

Sam Jones — Jones won his first election in a heated race against John Peavy in 2005. In 2009, he went back in uncontested.
Contacted by Lagniappe, Jones spokesperson Barbara Drummond said the mayor was in good health and had every intention of running for re-election.
Asked why he’d like to retain his office, Jones said he had a number of economic development projects pending, among other things.
"To continue positive growth in Mobile,” Jones said. "The city has become a global city — opening up many economic development opportunities which will bring more jobs to our community.
Please retire !
Tilmon Brown — Founder of the JTB Group, a real estate development and construction firm specializing in urban infill and a sixth generation Mobilian, Tilmon Brown, 57, says because of those pending budget issues and a general lack of visionary leadership he’s "definitely interested” in running for Jones’ spot."Over the past year I decided rather than just sit here I’d take the time to visit other cities in the United States,” Brown told Lagniappe. "And in those cities I met with mayors or liaisons and economic development specialists and took tours to see what other places are doing. On those trips it became glaringly apparent that we have all the mechanisms to achieve growth and success but we lack the visionary leadership needed to execute the plan.”

Doris Brown — Doris Brown, 58, a native of Harrison Twp., Mich., announced her intention to run for mayor earlier than anyone else. Brown currently works as a substitute teacher in the Mobile County Public School System and served as a member of the Wages and Deviation Board under former Michigan Gov. John Engler.
Doesn`t seem like she has a plan
Billy Curtright — At the age of 44, lifelong Mobilian and national director of California-based furniture company Human Touch, Billy Curtright believes the city has simply been misguided in its attempts at growth.
"I think our city is on the wrong track in terms of growth. We have become stagnant and lost the momentum we had pursuing international companies, using the current economy as an excuse,” Curtright said. "The current mayor exudes zero energy and lacks any sort of inspiration. He seems to only be playing defense and not bringing new ideas or initiatives to the city. Eight years with the current mayor is more than enough.”
Curtright has over 20 years in international business and marketing. He’s worked with companies in over 12 different countries and has spent significant portions of his personal time aiding in Mobile’s downtown revitalization efforts.
Younger and innovative ? Maybe but he seem like a good candidate as well
Sandy Stimpson — Current Executive Vice President of Gulf & Scotch Lumber Company Sandy Stimpson, 59, has little in the way of Lagniappe cuisine editor experience, but he has spent roughly 36 years as a businessman for Gulf Lumber.
His political involvement includes stints as finance chair and finance co-chair for Sen. Jeff Sessions. Stimpson has also compiled a lengthy list of civic involvements, most notably as a member of the University of Alabama’s President’s Cabinet, the director of the Alabama Policy Institute, The Governors Coastal Recovery Commission and the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce’s Board of Directors.
Asked by Lagniappe if he was indeed considering a run, Stimpson said he’d been encouraged by friends.
"If I decide to it’s because I believe I can make a difference,” Stimpson said. "I think that I have the ability and skillset, having been in business as long as I have.”
He has the skillset but I have this feeling that his leadership title will be " Keep Mobile as it is " and that could be dangerous
