^^^ Agreed! It's an architecture DISCUSSION forum. Hell, I'm only 20 years old and know how to keep myself in check on here, but yet you guys can't?

Everyone has different opinions and different ideas, if you can't handle that then why are you on a public discussion forum?

Saskatchewan is probably the most pessimistic place in the country by a very large margin. It took us pretty much 8 decades to recover from what the Great Depression did to our population/economic growth. This is slowly changing and people are starting to become a little more optimistic here, but the attitudes are still very much in flux. At least that's my opinion on the topic.

I'm remaining cautiously optimistic on this project. It's nice to see some action happening on this project, but there have been so many deadlines missed, and in general the management of it all has seemed to lack professionalism, so I'm starting to take announcements with a grain of salt.

I'm generally not one of the people being really negative about things, but I wrote this to sort of give a local perspective/reasoning to the attitudes you are seeing here.

I do have to say though, that the attitudes around here have been pretty rude on this thread (especially towards Mian) and to be honest some of the comments that were made (some were deleted) were pretty embarassing.

Yup I drove by tod shortly after 5 and all the albert St facing windows had been removed and most of the others too. Looks like about 80-90% of windows have been removed. So a definite positive sign.

Yes Nathan, I almost totally agree. But I would honestly have to say that Northern Ontario is probably the absolute most sad, rude and pessimistic region in this country. People there have just given up hope and have no prospects in sight. At least Saskatchewan has self-government, a relatively thriving economy, a growing population, and somewhat of a development boom.

The last major commercial or residential development in Northern Ontario outside of Sudbury was like 40 years ago, and the Northern Ontario provincial succession movement has been basically quashed by the bureaucrats in the South.

I thought I heard somewhere that the developer was saying actual knocking down of walls won't start for 2 weeks as they have to prep the inside. Not sure exactly what would need to be prep'd as it's already been gutted and they're knocking the thing down, but hey what the hell do I know about demolition! So if this is the case we can expect more visual inaction for at least another week.

Would they need to clear/salvage the electrical/plumbing fixtures, wiring, pipes, etc.? -- for all that copper is worth these days! Or would they have done that already?

I also believe that the building has abestos,= and cant be torn down till all that is removed by hand/pump. That insulation to me is what is stalling the demo of this project

I believe the removal of asbestos was done when the first bit of demo prep was done.

Today they painting the boarding white though!... not sure what the point of that is... but it's been painted...

Could be a primer? Maybe they will be putting a mural on it similar to what the Regina Inn has done.

Maybe... but what's the point of it? Wouldn't it have to come down soon anyway? They are going to have to drive some supports into the ground before they start digging down to get the 4 levels of underground parking, and wouldn't the boards get in the way of that where they are currently positioned?

I believe that the building is set back 3m from the property line on Victoria and 5m on Albert. If that is still the case, then the hoarding might be staying for the duration of construction.

Those are ridiculous setbacks. And here I was under the impression the building went up to the sidewalk.
