Haven't heard about the Thalia site, but I don't think the sites were being sold as a package; so he may have kept it.

Incidentally, I noticed the Hilton site at the NE corner of Cambie and Robson appears to be fenced off and going ahead. Plans were posted on here a while back. Anyone still have a rendering?

There's a new public washroom at Davie/Bute, as well as an upcoming Red Burrito a bit further west on Davie.
Exciting times indeed...

Also, anyone frequenting the area should really check out Donair Dude, in spite of its cheesy name. You get a massive pita full of yum for like $6.

Another office building in the works. 27 stories, ~360'. Can't say who, where or when, but it's definitely more than a rumour. It's an interesting looking building, but nothing groundbreaking or spectacular.

Also, more news that Vancouver's Turn is moving along. Only a matter of time now.

why even bother to save that part anyway - its just nothing - it looks like painted cement blocks

That's tragic. The whole block there gave this superdense wall of retail stores. That block should've been designated as a heritage structure, it was completely unique for that area of Downtown.

its being replaced by a block of retail - maybe if they restored that gawd awful building to something better perhaps but it's an eyesore

its replacement looks really nice

The rumblings of that went around our office too, the general concensus though was that the three going ahead will likely push the few unannounced towers out a few years at least barring some sustained economic growth in BC, which no longer looks likely.

Ya I was thinking that to be the case as well. Unfortunately.

You never know though. I don't think it be another 10 years before the next round of office buildings are completed.

I have to tell ya that I'd rather be first or second coming out of the ground, than fourth, fifth, whatever. The risk curve gets substantially steeper out there.

those windows on the optical place and the awning are hideous - if they restored it to what it did before they ruined in it i am guessing the 60's than it could look nice - the area above the awning looks decent and heritage like

as for the deco building i don't think its all that - kinda tacky to me
