I'm confused by these photos. WTC1 is right next to the old Twin Towers. Why are the lights so far away from WTC1 in these photos??

they are located south of WTC site...on the rooftop of the Battery Parking Garage about 4 blocks south

The lights sit atop of a parking Garage that leads to the entrance of the battery tunnel on West Street.

They were originally on the site of what is now the Goldman Sachs tower, so they had to be moved to a suitable location. The Freedom Tower will have a more permanent light show when it is completed.

Now that the WTC Memorial is almost complete why don't they move the lights there so it would meet the alignment of the original Twin Towers, and be the same in dimensions too.

I seriously doubt there is any room at the memorial to put them. Don't forget the space is full of trees... and 2 acres of waterfall/fountain.

Not to mention they will need all the space they can get for the opening this weekend.

WTC's Twitter says they won't be doing any construction on 9/11. Didn't say about how long before or how long afterwards though.

Seen workers putting up window panels on the webcams today. I'm starting to assume they'll wait until the day after 9/11 to start putting up beams.
