Does anyone have links to renderings, plans, etc for the St Leonard's development on Gottingen at Cunard? Looks like there will be no retail facing Gottingen. Can't find anything on the halifax.ca site, or anywhere.

There was a rendering of the development, probably in this thread or in the rumours thread. It showed a simple four storey building clad in blue siding. Not sure if that rendering showed commercial space, but somebody did post earlier that it wouldn't be included. Unfortunately it does sound like a subpar development for a street that doesn't need it.

By the way, there was an ANS article tonight about the Windsor Street apartment building. Most interesting were the details about developments on Grafton and Blowers. Apparently negotiations are ongoing for redeveloping the corner by St. Mary's -- a key site in the downtown area.

I believe the Blowers site is behind the "Renaissance" building and beside the white building next to the old Freemasons hall. I remember a proposal from around 2000 or so for "European-style lofts" for that site that never materialized. It has bugged me ever since, particularly with the MetroPark next door.

I would LOVE to see the corner parking lot by St. Mary's developed with shops and restaurants.

Looks like Dalhousie is building a new campus building.
Found the case while looking for something on the HRM website.

Yeah they had this in their Master Campus Plan. It will be built across from Risley Hall and will help with the overcrowding in residence. I lived in rez at Dal for 2 years and both years people were living in the lounges until as late as January.

Yep, there's been talk of the Lemarchant residences for a while, but it looks like there's no thread yet. I'll make one if it doesn't exist in a few hours.

Edit: fenwick16 pointed out that the thread is here: http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=181297

(HALIFAX) 2728 Joseph Howe Drive | ?m | 3 fl | Proposed

Proposal

The subject property is located on the southeast corner of the intersection of Joseph Howe Drive and Craigmore Street. It is designated Residential Environments under the Halifax Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS), and is zoned R-1 (Single Family Dwelling) under the Halifax Mainland Land Use By-law (LUB).

The W.M. Fares Group has been retained by Paul, Mary and Nicole Jabbour to act on their behalf in applying for a rezoning to the C-1 (Local Business) Zone to allow for the consideration of a commercial development. The proposal consists of constructing a three-storey commercial office building that will be served by an existing driveway on Craigmore Street near the south property line. The proposed development will include 24 underground and 24 surface parking spaces.

Case 17131 Details

Nothing remarkable but it is good to see more commercial on Joe Howe.

Scaffolding went up on Friday around the clock beside Nova Scotia Crystal at the foot of George Street. I'm told it should be gone by the end of the week.

As in gone gone? I wonder will it will go from there? Isn't it supposed to be the clock that used to be at the dockyard or something like that? Having said that... it always seemed to not be working anyway.

Curious that that is all happening now, given that any redevelopment of that area is still a while away (since they are still just at the public consultation stage).

And the opposition has already started against anything proposed.

I think he means the scaffolding will be gone by the end of the week, not the clock!

That makes much more sense LOL
I totally mis-read.

Regardless, I really hope that waterfront development corp doesn't stall like they have been in the past on all these sites along the waterfront. There are so many prime spots that have the potential to help bring more people downtown.

There was a comment on here a while ago by Waye (I think) saying about downtown being a dead zone in essence... but really it is just that the uses of things has changed. SGR has replaced Barrington for shopping, but when you go down along the boardwalk in the summer I find it hard to believe the hype that the downtown is dead and no one wants to go there. What we need are more and more mixed use stuff that will expand the reasons for people to go, and in particular in the winter.

Nope. I meant the clock is coming down. The whole structure. A clock maker was suppose to come in over the weekend to remove the actual clock face and mechanics for future use, and the rest of the structure will come down in a matter of days. Apparently its not in good shape and the dome on top is made from one inch thick lead. They are worried of the damage it might cause if it were to come off in a storm.

DeVenne dies of cancer

This seemed the best place to put this...

DeVenne dies of cancer

By DAVENE JEFFREY Staff Reporter
Tue, Aug 30 - 4:55 AM
Nova Scotia’s politicians have lost one of their sharpest critics and this newspaper one of its more prolific letter writers.

Bruce DeVenne died Saturday of liver cancer.

"His voice will be missed," said Bob Harvey, who represents Lower Sackville on Halifax regional council.

DeVenne, of Lower Sackville, was in his mid-60s.

He contracted hepatitis C from tainted blood in 1986 while undergoing treatment with a clotting agent for a blood disease. He was front and centre in the battle to obtain compensation for people who got hep C through tainted blood.

Story link is here.

There's scaffolding on the front of Tim Horton's/Foregin Affair on SGR. Anyone know what's happening there?

Hi Everyone. I'm a frequent traveller to the Halifax area and I usually stay at the Atlantica Hotel. Across the street from the hotel, the old QE High School is coming down. Are there any redevelopment plans for the site (hospital expansion, retail/office/residential towers, etc)?

Yeah. An urban farm.

I kid you not, but hey, this is Halifax. The loonies are in charge.
