Has the building reached it's maximum height yet? Wasn't it supposed to be 12 stories?

This building and I believe the 3 others near it are all going to be 14 stories. This one appears to be topping out now.

To say the least finding an empty spot on the boardwalk was impossible;

King's Wharf's sightline seen as condo's appeal

The million-dollar view across Halifax harbour is what developer Francis Fares says will be the main selling point for his King's Wharf development in Dartmouth.

"I would say in the next four or five years, you should see a little community here that's thriving and everybody's enjoying the boardwalks on the waterfront," Fares, president of Fares Inc., said Friday.

...

In late fall, construction is expected to begin on two 14-storey buildings.

...

Fares is hoping to get city council approval next year for the final stage of his project: the 109-metre-tall King's Wharf building. Eighty people have already paid a deposit to be able to pick their units.

That building is expected to open in 2015.

Good to hear that they're moving at a decent pace. Like I said before, there is a huge advantage to larger scale multi-phase developments.

If Fenwick is 98m/33 stories, wouldn't 109 be more like 36 stories? Or are the top six going to be used for something else? Either Way, I can see how it would take the "limelight" away from Purdy's Wharf, for anyone travelling up the harbour in a boat.

Depends on how high each floor is, I'd think...

This is the image of the iconic tower from the King's Wharf website (source: http://www.kingswharf.ca/index.php/properties/ ). It appears that it could be as tall as a 35 storey tower although the site plan shows it as a 30 storey condo on top of two levels of mixed-use space which would be 32 storeys (the upper pointed section will add some additional height). At 109 meters it will be the tallest in the HRM and should be very impressive being right next to the harbour.

Does anyone know what order the buildings in the following site plan will be built - http://kingswharf.ca/images/uploads/Site%20Plan.pdf? Would it be A and B (currently under construction) then C, D and then I (the iconic tower)???

If this entire complex is completed, then there are also 17 storey and 18 storey towers. With 1,200 residential units and a significant amount of office sace, it appears to be significantly larger than the Nova Centre as far as total space goes.

Fenwick,

It is indeed ABCD as Phase 1, then I & L as Phase 2.

See:

(this amendment was approved)

Haha. On page 3 it says that staff won't let the King's Street extension be called King's Street because it would mean existing King's Street would have to be renamed. Sigh. Maybe King's Street South? Give it a nice Toronto / NYC flavour?

Thank you hoser111 for digging that information up. It is interesting that initially the iconic tower (building I) and building L would have been phase I.

The order that they are now following seems to make more sense and there is probably less financial risk in starting with smaller apartment/condos. It is also good to see that the iconic tower will be part of the next phase 2.

I sure hope the public beach that is on the plan sheet posted by Fenwick is built. What a great spot with views of Downtown Halifax and right in downtown Dartmouth. This would bring in good amounts of pedestrian traffic. I wonder if it would tie into the Waterfront walk that's been built over the past few years?

Oh wow. I didn't know they planned for a beach. That would be great.

They have already collected something like 80 deposits on the main King's Wharf tower. My understanding is that the deposit is not for a unit but for the chance to buy before others who have not put money down. Doing things this way seems like a good idea because there is time to build up interest and pre-sell, plus the earlier buildings will give potential buyers more confidence if they turn out well.

A beach? I'm assuming that it would just be for the scenery.

^If it's well sheltered from boat traffic I can see people swimming there in the summer. It would be like a Dartmouth version of Black Rock Beach.
