Speaking of Frost, here's some trivia. The french designers of the online game My Mini City have Frost Bank Tower (with different signage) as one of the 6 mega-towers you could possibly get once your city reaches a certain size

See this thread

It's images of all the houses, and buildings used in the game. Scroll down near the bottom of the first post where it says "The big buildings." That first one is definitely Frost Bank Tower. Instead of four Frost Bank logos at the top, it was replaced with red stars and there's signage for "Motion Twin" (the name of the company that developed the game.)

Someone in France must really like it.

That is cool. It's definitely meant to be the most awesome of the "big buildings" you can get, too -- that's why the company put their own name on it.

Maybe y'all will like my letter to the Statesman today. Gotta turn the tide against the neighborhood group/NIMBY types. The rhetoric had gotten pretty bad in the Statesman (particularly in regards to Rainey St.) and that forced my hand.

Aha. A definite sign of progress, then! Thanks, SAM.

Were they off before midnight? They always do turn them off around midnight. We were coming back from my sister's house in Del Valle a few weeks ago late. There's that view near 183. I could see Frost lit up before that, but just before we got to 183 the lights went out. I didn't see them turn off, but it was like one second they were on and then a few seconds later they were off.

Yeah, I noticed they looked to be digging in earnest this morning. The last few months have been all prep work, so nothing too interesting to show, yet.

They have been off since before 10 PM several times this week.

They didn't even turn on the lights tonight. I went to Blues on the Green at Zilker Park and they never turned them on. I took a bunch of photos of the skyline, too.

As for The Austonian, are you talking about the white crescent lit area at the very top? They haven't lit that part since shortly after the building was finished. I think they were just playing around with some different ideas.

Yeah the white crescent is what I was talking about. It was a bit much up close but looked great from a distance. I thought that was what they were going to go with once the building opened.

My guess is they are not turing them on right now because of power usage for AC.. or at least, that is the excuse to save money.

The plus side is it kind of looks like Totorro with the crown off.

Reliant

Found my answer to a previous post. Here's what's coming up on Ben White betwixt 1st and Congress. Won't exactly make the top 10 architectural feats of the year, but it's better than the urban cow pasture it's been for many a year.

New Travis courthouse could be part of massive development

By Mike Kanin
The firm behind the master plan for Travis County's central campus project presented the Commissioners' Court Tuesday with a set of potential concepts for its new Civil and Family Courthouse building. The grandest of these schemes imagines a complex punctuated with a 72-story tower that would hold nearly 1.4 million square feet of lease space.

Travis County is accepting proposal bids for the project. I think they said there's 25 of them from architects from all over the world. What it'll come down to is money, and they'll choose the one that best fits what the county needs and can afford.
