Bitching and Hooker Fights......If we here at Coffee Talk had a band, that would be the name of our first CD.

Back in Calgary for a while. On one hand, it's awesome because I fucking love this place, on the other hand, all my friends are in Victoria, or some other place that isn't Calgary. Oh well, my cousin is 18 now, so I can finally go out drinking with him.

Back to cold/windy/rainy St. John's on the 17th! Uh...yay?

I'd like to think I'm not old at heart. Then again, I'd probably just be credited for a guest appearance.

It's pretty depressing when one starts work early i nthe morning and works so long that the workday ends early in the morning too. FML.

Still another hour to go!

ColDay Pet Peeve Alert:

This:
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=193086

Is a trip. How on earth do you go to Times Square, say:

Quote:
Taking the pictures of the NYTimes Tower involved me being dangerously close to Times Square. The stench of Midwesterner was almost too overwhelming, and I needed to leave soon.
Yet you went to New York to try SHAKE SHACK?

Quote:
Naturally, my first question, me being from L.A., was where the best hamburger was. I was told time and time again, "Shake Shack!" And so, I set off to find this mystical Shack Shack. And then, there it was.
Ya know, one of the more known CHAINS/TOURSITY FOODS in the city? Yes, I'm sure tourists from Iowa and Michigan are just creaming in their pants to find the best HAMBURGER in NEW YORK CITY. Not pizza. Not even Sbarro. But a HAMBURGER. In NEW YORK CITY. Next time I go to Paris, remind me to skip the French bullshit and head straight to the PFK.

Oy! Not ONLY that but the guy is from California, the Chain Capital of the Country. A state where a giant 40-foot real estate billboard erected by a Clevelander (*shudders*) on a burnt-out hillside is a landmark and where giant donuts and overrated In-N-Out Burgers take hold in their collective conscience.

It's one thing to use the Midwest thing in tongue-n-cheek but it's another to be from a place founded by people from Iowa, taking the chain thing to the max (again, In-N-Out...Tommy's...hell, Del Taco!), and finding Times Square "Midwestern." Lawd Jesus, the child needs to be Saved by the Bell and I ain't talkin' tacos!

Pity the poor midwesterners. They don't know any better

I'm vaguely intrigued and exasperated at rotnarT's insistence that the Skybar be "more international"

Also, how does being from LA somehow make you more of a burger expert than anyone else in the country?

Also, I have lived in NY for four years and though I avoid Times Square like the plague it still can be a pretty unique and beautiful place on the occasion I pass through.

Also, that guys a dick.

Having never been to NYC before, I'm "one of those idiots" that would go to Times Square just to say I've been there if I ever get the chance to visit.

Not that I condone the reasoning (or lack thereof) for the riots in London, but I'm enjoying seeing a lot of forumers' inner fascists come out on full display in response to how they think the police should handle the situation.

Then again, I wasted two years of my life on a worthless criminal justice degree, so if there's anything I'm the least bit qualified to pontificate, its why these sorts of things happen and how they manage to get so out-of-hand (helps that one of my professors studied and took part in protests/riots for his PhD).

It's crazy, I suggested that maybe there were some strong socio-economic currents underlying the motives of the rioters (regardless of whether they are doing more looting or protesting) and suddenly I was being accused of wanting to 'treat [the rioters] with respect.'

Yeah. SD_Phil got eviscerated. Police need to do their job, but it can be done without bashing in peoples' skulls with nightsticks...

At least those occasional condescending posts like those from Mr. Shake Shack made have one good purpose, they make me feel completely OK about where I'm from and still choose to live.

wha.. what.. you mean you don't like the idea of living in LA-LA land driving a 20 inch rim rider in 90F heat while munching on In-and-Out Burger (factually the greatest burgers of all time and there is no disputing it according to a certain someone)?????

btw apparently these are the states and counties Dan has visited (as of August 2011).

I guess I've been to 5% of the counties in the US, give or take a lot (I forget all the places in Alaska I went to in particular, among others).

the website says I've only been to 1.2% of US counties

it seemed like a lot...

Not saying this was true in Cirrus' case, but because someone's been to the Four Corners, they can technically claimed they stepped foot in Apache County, AZ...

I know, right? God forbid someone dares offer a response beyond "shoot 'em in the head, and let god sort 'em out." or offer the obvious "rioting is wrong. The end." God forbid that someone takes more than two seconds to actually let their brain think before they offer some commentary, instead of instant raw, visceral emotion guide them to spew random, hateful, internet tough-guy bullsh%t commentary. You won't find a thoughtful one of us on this board that condones this kind of violence, but you so much as try to dig deeper in yourself than pulling up some primal caveman grunting, snarling post on the matter, you're condoning it. This is why we can't have nice things. lol

I shouldn't be shocked, but I'm still kind of surprised at just how thoughtless people can be when it comes to certain subjects. I mean thoughtless quite literally: without thought, when you quite simply just feel/emote your way through a complicated issue.
