wow- best thread ever of downtown cleveland.

if there was ever a downtown poised for a philly center city-like comeback its cleveland. actually its already happening with the cc/medmart, east bank flats and all the residential redevelopment of that old building stock.

Yeah...really, really underrated city. The only negative that stands-out are those long, wide, cavernous streets. Otherwise, beautiful architecture, decent-looking street life and of course, the Jake. Great tour!

I really want to see more Cleveland neighborhoods (outside downtown)!

I live here now and all I can think as I drive around town is: "wow, this must have been quite the place 100 years ago". I wish Cleveland had continued its boom because it started out RED HOT and it's very apparent by the infrastructure of the city! I'm rooting for its comeback, bigtime!

Wow, tons of amazing architecture and old buildings. I hope for the best for Cleveland. Id hate to see such an historic city turn into another Detroit. But, I do believe Cleveland has started to level off with its population loss and has even seen a slight increase, or am I wrong?

I am struck by the large number of 19th century and early 20th century buildings that are in great condition. Thanks for paying attention to these of often overlooked buildings.

The city itself is still seeing population loss overall - in some cases, particularly on the east side, there's some large scale abandonment/decay. The foreclosure crisis hit areas like Slavic Village pretty hard. In other areas, including downtown and some close-in neighborhoods, there's been significant reinvestment. Although that doesn't always mean population growth, there are a lot of spots where household incomes have gone up. Basically there's plenty of abandonment *and* stabilization going on.

maybe it's just your attention to them, but in all the times i've been to cleveland (which is only a few, but still), i've never taken notice of just how well preserved that city keeps so many of its old buildings. there's one impressive old building after another in this thread, and they all look to be in pretty good shape. and yeah, that greyhound station is a stunner.

Sounds like an idea for a thread!

There's a smaller, but similarly-styled, curvy 1939 art deco one in Erie, PA too... which is unique in that it's wedged into the middle of an 1850s block. But it hasn't been used as a bus station since the 1980s.

It was vacant and then a really seedy pool hall for years and it's now a surprisingly cavernous and very popular bar/dance club complex. They put some money into renovating the interior, but the exterior still needs to be fixed up.
