What I would much rather though is just having a walk under Red River along the creek. I'm not sure how they are planning on doing that bridge. Looking at Google Maps the CC and new hotel lot don't show any perfect areas to make the bridge. The CC on that corner has the creek right there and is kinda funky shaped.

Just put a pedestrian bridge over the creek right under where E 1st crosses the creek and make it very park like. Right between Iron Works and the south CC entrance is. People could still stay closer to the creek where it is cooler rather than walking along the streets and it would encourage more use of the creek.

Are they planning on putting this bridge right over Iron Works? lol. That just seems crazy, and not sure the BBQ joint would just be 'ok' with that.

Delayed Rainey Street Hotel Plans Finalized
By DAB
DOWNTOWN AUSTIN BLOG
2011 JULY 29

Hotel Van Zandt, proposed initially in parallel to The Shore Condos in Downtown Austin’s Rainey Street District in 2008, is still kicking.

Downtown Austin Blog reported in March that plans had been filed for the hotel, though it was unclear what scope the project had taken on. Today I confirmed the project will be 16 stories, about 180 feet, and about 320 units, plus 10,000 square feet of meeting space and a 5,000-square-feet of resturant office.

As far as we knew Novare was still planning a residential tower of up to 40 floors on the post office block, and had switched to an office tower for the block north of the courthouse. Maybe Novare sold the block to Endeavor?

What are the other two corner properties?

Well one of the other blocks at that intersection is where the new Federal Courthouse is which occupies the full block, and the other is where Republic Square Park is which also occupies the full block.

So I'm guessing that Novare sold one of their blocks to Endeavor.

Novare sold the property to IBC, and reserved the right to purchase back the tower site. IBC has hired Endeavor to act as developer for fee to build a headquarters that is significantly more than a drive through. There was a rendering posted recently on one of the Austin threads, but I could not find it.

The Managed Growth Agreement is needed to keep the site plan alive, but the IBC project will not take 10 years. They are just waiting for the Little Shoal Creek Tunnel project to be done before they can start. If Novare does ever build the tower, they might need the 10 year extension.

Cielo has officially relocated so it looks like the site is freed up for the hotel at 416 congress to move forward. Does anybody know what the next step is?

As state funds dry up UT, Texas State seek options to build engineering buildings

Austin Business Journal - by Sandra Zaragoza , ABJ Staff
Date: Friday, July 29, 2011, 5:00am CDT - Last Modified: Thursday, July 28, 2011, 3:41pm CDT

After the tough budgeting process at the Capitol earlier this year, local universities came away empty-handed when it came to special funding for capital improvement projects.

The University of Texas and Texas State University did not receive state funding for future projects, which is prodding them to re-evaluate their planning and prioritize projects they’d like to see get done in the not-so-distant future. Both universities have prioritized new engineering buildings.

YNN did a story on the downtown hotel proposals:

The Hyatt Place hotel will be the first to start construction - later this month.
