Dunno if it was posted yet but lots of work being done today on the old DQ building on SGR and SP.

Looks like construction/renovation is starting to heat up. It's about time.

I'm sure anyone else who uses Google Earth may have noticed this, all the 3D buildings done for downtown Halifax by the same person are from what i can tell all too tall or too short. Just take a look at 1801 Hollis.... anyways, it has been bothering me since they are so picky with what gets put on Google Earth.

If you double left click on the image it gives the username of the person that did the image (Connor06 in this case). It is too short as you stated, it appears to be only 70% of the proper height - it is 200 feet instead of the proper height of 285 feet or 87 meters - http://www.emporis.com/neighborhood/104458?nav=worldmap_ci_bu&id=101006 ).

I did a few 3D models that were accepted to Google Earth, such as Founders Square, Tupper Medical Building, Summer Street Apartment Building, MetroPark, and IWK Grace Maternity Wing.

haha yeah I know that. Just don't usually like naming names.

I also noticed your models, they look great btw. Wasn't saying yours were some of the ones bothering me.

Thanks.

Google Earth wants models to be photo-rendered without artifacts such as telephone lines, trees, etc. So without close-up, real, street-view photographs, it can be difficult. I used Google Maps Street View images and a photo-editing program to remove hydro-lines, etc. Sometimes models look better with Sketchup renderings but Google Earth won't accept it.

Trying to do the 3D models with photo-rendering can take a few day per model and even then, sometimes they don't look perfect when viewed close-up. However, I try to get the proportions right.

It is good to see that Connor06 did so many 3D models for Halifax but it seems that he is going for quantity instead of proper scale. . I tried to find an email address in his profile to send him a friendly message about his scale but I couldn't. But we can rate the models and send him some information on the proper building heights.

Challenge time. So as most forumers know Halifax has quite a few projects on the verge of beginning construction. At the same time though there is a somewhat limited supply of cranes to go around. So my challenge is to see who can guess where the next crane get erected! So where do you think will get it up first? City Centre Atlantic? Wright's Cove? Saint Lawrence Place? The Waterton II? Or some other project?

This challenge is purely for bragging of course but extra bragging is rewarded if you not only guess the next crane location but the ultimate destination for this one;

The City Centre crane was completed today, my guess is a third crane for Mt Royale is next (one of the RCMP cranes), then Wrights Cove and then Waterton II (Trillium crane).

My guess is a bit different. With CCA out of the picture I'm saying Wright's Cove then Waterton II (Trillium crane confirmed IIRC), followed by Mount Royale, Saint Lawrence Place (say mid-September), and by the end of the year a new one for Larry Uteck (across from the Cousins buildings).

As for the RCMP crane complete shot in the dark but I'll go with Saint Lawrence Place.

One of my friends on Facebook started a folder of photos of South End developments. The only building there thusfar is The VIC, but they're nice shots, I think.

Halifax SE downtown core renewal gaining momentum

Let me know if the folder is public or not. (It works for me. Duh.)

Well the LSC extension at Dal gets the prize, one of the RCMP cranes is going up as we speak. I didn't expect this building to need a crane.

That is definitely surprising. How tall is the LSC expansion?

I was going through my photos from July and released I missed posting these ones from the weekend. For protective reasons I have to include a disclaimer;

"The photos posted below were taken on Sunday July 25th, 2011 by the poster (Dmajackson) these photos are purely informational and and were taken in good lighting and at the best angles available at the time. The photographer takes no responsibility for any injuries resulting from viewing the photos. Viewers of the photos may experience sudden blindness, or lose of optimism. Do not view these photos while in a bad mood or while holding a hot cup of coffee. If these symptoms are experienced immediately open the King's Wharf or Trillium threads followed by a walk to a beautiful locale in your neighbourhood. The symptoms of this serious case of Halifax-brick-disease usually last 24 hours. Avoid visiting airline websites and discussing other cities during this period. You may experience the desire to move if these precautions are not taken. For increased safety these photos have been shrunk so as to avoid serious injury."

It is really depressing that the last photo is the best photo of this "development"

At least this clearly explains why I immediately drove over the Bridge to the best skyline view of Halifax. A lot of beauty is needed to cancel out this beast.
