Ha, I actually have been asked by a guy if I wanted to come into the alley off Robson between that glasses building and Chapters (across from Sears) and buy a brand new mac book pro for $500. It was tempting for my friend until I whispered to him that this guy is just trying to get us to go down a dark alley with $500 in our hands.

The basement might seem too big, but the ground level and upstairs alone would be too small. If I were organizing the store, I would put the genius bar upstairs, a cafe and iphones/ipads on the main floor, and all the other stuff in the basement. LED screens really pop when not in direct sunlight and having all the small accessories located further from the entrance will decrease the opportunities for theft. The extra space could be used to conduct workshops, one one one, youth programs, and business consulting like they do at their flagship stores.
I'm in no way an apple fanboy (I've only ever owned 1 ipod and bought another one as a gift) but I think the location at Burrard and Robson is probably the best location in the city for such a store. The douchyness of evenings on Granville would be a huge turn off for the company, and the late night shoppers that walk Robson until after 10pm almost year round is more their target market. And the glassy design of the building as it is is very appropriate for Apple.
