Here is UTA's official new rail map:

Some of the new stations have terrible new names. 8351 S. 2700 W. is the actual name of the station?

The actual name of that station is "Sugar Factory Road".

Streetcar Phase 2

I'm guessing phase 2 is the extension along 1100 East to Westminster.

According to the RDA website, the goals for the Sugar House Streetcar Phase 2 are:

"1. Extend transit service to serve a greater number of households, employment, and student trips. An extension of transit is needed to provide more convenient service to residents, workers and students
2. Provide an alternative to auto travel to accommodate the increase in trips resulting from future development in the Sugar House Business District and the surrounding area. The extension of transit is needed to reduce the growth in auto trips resulting from build-out of the desired and adopted Master Plan
3. Support economic development in Sugar House by catalyzing transit-oriented development consistent with the Sugar House Master Plan. The extension transit is needed to serve a greater number of existing and proposed businesses in and beyond the Sugar House Business district.
4. Support regional goals for livability, the improvement of air quality, transit ridership and transit-oriented development. The extension of transit is needed to increase ridership on the regional system, support regional TOD goals, and serve TOD.
5. Provide a safe, attractive, and functional pedestrian environment to promote a more walkable community. The extension of transit is needed to provide an extension of pedestrian trips, to serve the study area where many pedestrian improvements will be made, and to support the multi-modal goals of the Sugar House Master Plan.
6. Improve quality of life for residents and visitors to Sugar House; access to transit and job centers, reduced expenditures on personal transportation, more housing choice, improved health and air quality. The extension of transit is needed to provide transportation choice to an increased number of residents, students and workers."

On that new UTA rail map, I think they left some room so they can place the Draper extension on there without having to replace the whole thing. Ditto for when the airport extension of the West Valley line opens (am I the only one who thinks that's a rather circuitous route?).

Well thanks! I've been lurking around for a while, reading mostly the City Creek and transit news threads. It's quite an exciting time for Salt Lake now, I must say.

Welcome CountyLemonade...Cool Name. I ran into a lurker yesterday here in L.A. When he told me he was an architectural student, I asked him if he was familiar with the forum. He said he definitely was, and had been a big time lurker for quite some time. Also, he said he was impressed with what was going on in Downtown Salt Lake.

This new street car looks so lovable and friendly. I feel like I'm just going to be able to walk right up to it, pet it, and give it a big hug...kinda like a Golden Retriever.

This is the image that really, really appeals to me. Sure, the image is probably a tad hyperbolic... but getting the streetcar to Sugar House is an important first step. Of course, that blighted hole at the intersection of 21st and Highland must be built upon for Sugar House to ever look like the above image. Sigh.

Look at all those clueless people about to die.

You're right though. I haven't been to Sugar House for a while because, aside from the Patigonia store, there's just nothing for me there. A few months ago I did an interview for some online thing and the lady wanted me to meet her at Sugarhouse Coffee. Apparently it moved and I walked into the former building where a bunch of dudes were repainting the place. There weren't any signs or anything, so it confused me at first. They just looked at me as I slowly backed out onto the sidewalk.

Once again, the best part of the photo is the family picnic taking place a couple feet from the tracks.

Now just need to see the West Valley line to go 5600 W, then have the line from the airport go down 5600 West and create a loop around the south through Herriman and connect in Draper. A routes along 47/45th going east might help as well since how busy that street has become. I would say 54/53rd as well but it really doesn't go much farther than State street before it ends to make it worth going east on. I just think something needs to be done to handle a lot of the east west traffic traveling on those streets. I know they were working on 54th with those traffic lights to allow more traffic to move in the direction of the highest volume the last time I visited my Mother in Taylorsville but I think thats only a short term fix.

I haven't been through that area for a while, but it's probably this project:

Here is a link to UDOT's page for the project:

Whoa...what a great set of pics!! SLCdude, these are my favorite yet. Looking at this pic below screams how far Salt Lake City has come in the past decade. I love this pic. What a great corridor this is becoming.
