Looks like the new tower will be 28 floors, which translates into about 130 meters

Stupid Nathan Phillips shadowing laws *grumble $%#@*&!!!

Nothing under 200 meters for that prime location, I say. NPS be damned!

You just gotta love those that continue to choose some skyline stuffer over the square. It's especially interesting considering the shadowing initiative has absolutely nothing to do with this proposal being a measly 27 floors. Oxford could build over 700 feet here before it become a concern.

Yeah, the previous proposal was for 600 ft (183 meters) I believe. Even this in comparison to that is small potatoes.

I don't understand the zoning bylaws in the CBD area. I remember that the developers of Scotia Plaza ended up having to donate to the city to get their height approved.

Everyone has to "donate" to the city in order to build.

Scotia predates the shadowing initiative not that it matters. The height ceiling back then was around 300 metres in the core. I presume the chosen height of Scotia is very close to the optimal height of the design. Anything taller wouldn't be cost effective.

Found a rendering from the Sault Star of a building I was talking about earlier.
The building will be built on the old brewery site at Bay and Spring in downtown Sault Ste. Maire
43 floors about 146m.

I'm obviously going to have to find a copy of Sault Star to see that for myself. I honestly can't believe it.

I didn't believe it either until I got the article in the mail. I can't find it at the Sault Star website though which —.

Which day is it from? I think the library here only keeps copies for a week.

Don't you think it's a joke... Because it's made out of beer cans on the site of an old brewery?

1021 W Hastings in Vancouver.

According to an article released today it appears this tower may begin construction in Q3 2011 !

While it is not the largest tower, at 145 meters it is still decent and the design is amazing IMO.
This tower is gonna be an unbelievable addition to the skyline, very excited to see some actual architectural prowess come to the Vancouver skyline

I looooooooooooove that Winnipeg is getting a new tower... but the design includes way too much concrete. I know if this were said in Vancouver everyone would hate me, but in Winnipeg, you guys definitely need mooore glass!

Here's a story from Local2.ca, which I presume is a local television channel in the Sault:

http://local2.ca/ssm/viewarticle.php?id=1519

The prospect of a 40-storey condo getting built in the Sault seems highly unlikely, but what a coup it would be if it actually happened!

That Toronto office tower proposal looks excellent! Who cares about the height, when it has a destinctive, non 100% box design? And It will add some nice density. Quality over Quantity IMO.

You're right, it does look to be made out of beer cans.
I have the article in my room and it's not a joke.
But I don't think this building can sell enough units to keep the current height, I think the tower may only be half the height if it goes through.

Rumour has it they already have two lead tenants for this project.

It's from a little while ago. My parents couldn't send me the article until the mail resumed so that's why I didn't post anything until now.
It's from Friday June 17. Section A, page 3.
