I know a few of you like 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 on people's parades so much you stake out a window seat every Thanksgiving so you can stick it to Macy's, but know your limits.
^^^This.

I'm not the kind of person that goes into a CAD program and slops something down and calls it a day. If that was the case, I wouldn't be making these renders at all. When I see height information posted in this forum, or any website, I use it. I don't leave them laying on this forum for nothing.

Even more, to those people who like to ruin the parade, I can give you the raw model file so you can measure it yourselves.

As STR said, I have the model, they don't. Speaking of which, they don't even have any CAD-related software, so they obviously don't know anything about camera angle, field of view, perspective etc. Right now, only STR can make assumptions and point things out that are wrong with my rendering. He has the programs, he has the models, and he has the knowledge and expertise about rendering/modeling. He knows what hes talking about.

^ And that's the end of that particular discussion. You people can send PMs if you need to discuss it any further.

Even though NYguy said that it's the end of "that" discussion, I just wanted to say THANK-YOU to STR & TGA for telling it how it is. I can't even begin to fathom how much work you guys put into doing your renders, but I know enough about CAD to see that your work is as close to the real thing as humanly possible.

Thank-you SO MUCH for the work that you've contributed to this development. You guys rock.

I have no idea what the elevation is, but that seems like it would put the lobby underwater with any sort of storm surge at high tide.

If you have ever seen any blueprints of either the new WTC or the old one, you probably would have noticed that the PA lists everything 300+ feet above ground level. For example, the former WTC plaza was at elevation 332. That number is the the NYC datum (which, again is Battery Park at low tide) minus 300 feet so the PA doesn't have to deal with negative numbers when digging tunnels.

1WTC ground floor is at elevation 311'2", which means it's 11'2" above sea level at low tide. The old plaza was 32' above low tide. Apparently high tide is 4.9' higher than low tide. LINK, so for the sake of simplicity, subtract 2.5 feet for mean sea level.

As for the vulnerability to surges, Manhattan is mostly 12-30 feet above sea level. Pretty much all of Manhattan south of 110th St is. And yes, it is very vulnerable to storm surges. A mere 4' surge in 1992 shut down the subway. LINK. A 10-15 foot hurricane surge, which will happen to NYC eventually, will cause significant flooding damage.

And if it's anything like Deep Impact/The Day After Tomorrow, than we're in real trouble.

Anyway, I have seen rumors (like others have said) that there have been discussions with a major tenant. Even if this doesn't work out, I don't think Silverstein will have any trouble leasing and/or getting the money for this tower.

Simply put, this tower is pretty stinkin' awesome.

This is very incorrect.

Many parts of Manhattan below 14th street are that low, but as you head north, Manhattan actually gains significant elevation... the island has its name for a reason.

The maps are hard to make out but you can indeed see the contour lines. In a major hurricane, much of downtown would flood (and the lower part of the East Side would also be quite vulnerable), but most of the island would be fine. Brooklyn & Queens are what you have to worry about, as they are much more vulnerable/lower.

Your map is whack, It shows the elevation above the WTC site as 105 feet and Wall St. as 200+ feet, which means it's not a topographical survey, but a simple radar scan of the island, and not a particularly granular one, as it takes into account the buildings and averages them out over a couple of blocks for the final number.

You are right in that people don't realize the height of some parts of the island. There are veritable hills and valleys in and around Harlem.

What are you talking about? You have to switch the view to topographic, it clearly shows the WTC around the 10' mark.

Still getting 105 feet in Topos mode.

Don't look at the "elevation at center" as that most definitely is off, rather the map itself.
