SFU, great update. Thank you!

Any idea when James and Maynards are going to top out?

^I don't recall, but is the skatepark a good distance away from the bikepath? Or is there some sort of barrier?

It's not actually a skate park.

I think it's right next to the bikepath but folks walking buy are taking this as a skate park (sure looks like one). Once the tweens and teens get their hands all over it then they may brand it as one.

The two new streets on the BK/McDonalds Block have been given names. The northern most E-W st will be called Central St (a continuation of Central St from the east) There will also be bike path punched out on the East side of Main St liking it. See link for a better idea.

The Southern most E-W st will be called Switchmen St a throwback to it's roots.

Yes, that is some kid in background about to mount these things with his skateboard. He was actually with his mom and after he did it twice (with that person there, no less) she finally told him to not do it. Gah.

Looks sorta comfy at least:

^Sorry, but the design pretty much begs skateboarders to give it a whirl. Not sure why in an age when most of our urban design takes skate-proofing into account they chose to completely disregard it here?

Not quite a total disregard - there's an unpainted steel edge to the benches.

Here are some images of what the area bounded by Terminal to First and Quebec to Main will look like. The two new streets Switchmen and Central bound the Onni development 'Central' in the middle. The shots of the latest development just south of the Central are also shown. You can see a new slightly curved pedestrian/bike corridor seperating the two halfs.

Thanks Built Form. Very interesting. Any sense on the time frame for completion of each of these projects?

Looks great, I love the massing of these developments, will really create a great neighbourhood. Anyone know the relative densities of these projects? I wouldnt be surprised if the FSR was similar to much of the 30-40 storey yaletown lands.

great to see that area transforming. I lived in that area for years when I first came to Vancouver and although it was rough it was a great location. I daresay that with the proximity to the skytrain and downtown it will transform that area for the better. It may even breath some new life into China town, given how close it is.

Nice to see the city's less attractive areas getting redone

Nice, thanks.

Doesn't look like the curved historic RoW will be used for the streetcar (there's no space west of it for a RoW).

Interesting that for the project to the north of the curved RoW (as well as to the south of it), the massing model looks to show office buildings fronting Main St. (i.e. curtain wall), whereas the detailed model seems to show a more residential looking facade. Hopefully it'll be office space like Central (the stilt building).

Thanks for the update, Built Form.

From today's Vancouver Sun:

Quote:
VANCOUVER - As the former Olympic village begins to fill up, two major commercial tenants have reached long-term leases that will allow village residents to shop for groceries and toiletries just outside their front doors.

London Drugs and Urban Fare, who originally signed up as anchor tenants at the village, renegotiated the terms of their leases after the original site developer Millennium went into receivership last November.

The companies, which began renegotiations with receiver Ernst & Young in late January, announced Tuesday they had reached agreement on leases and will be opening their doors by late next spring.

The agreement was buoyed by a residential occupancy rate of 65 per cent at the site, ...

... only 325 square metres of vacant commercial space — three smaller separate storefronts — remain tenantless out of the total 5,900 square metres available to businesses in the village

... Cooper said he hoped the new Terra Breads bakery and café adjacent to the main plaza would add to the atmosphere of village. It was originally slated to open at the beginning of July, but due to construction delays it is now scheduled to open at the end of the month.

I was down at Creekside last night for Dragonboating practice, and while my truck was parked along W1st I got a lovely little warning ticket from the City of Vancouver, it appears they will be doing away with the parking along the centre median for the 2 blocks that they have been allowing it directly in front of the Olympic Village development.

Were you in front of WCFC? Seems that was the primary target of last nights campaign. Looks like they were doing it with regards to the median needed for traffic flow during construction, much like in front of James, a little further West.

I was...they "warning" ticketed both blocks, both the one in front of WFCF and the second one down, unpaved section as well (across from that..."park")
