Honestly I won't be convinced until I see concrete being poured. Not even "shovels in the ground" will do it for me on this one.

The Expo line does meet the Canada Line, twice once at VCC/Granville (kinda) and then again at Waterfront. The M-Line does too technically (see above)

What will be nice is when the M-Line meets the Canada Line along Broadway (which is what I think you meant to say.

Yup! Besides the Evergreen Line, the most anticipated transit milestone for me is when the M-Line meets the C-Line at Cambie and Broadway. That's a big piece of our transit-connectivity puzzle solved right there.

I still wish that the E-Line also included the M line extension to the C-Line. Yes that would add another 100 or 200 million, but at least then you would get Vancouver on board for voting for funding.

How would you connect the E-Line to the C-Line on Broadway?

The most likely scenario is the Expo Line (or is it Millenium Line?) would be built under the Canada Line running along 10th Ave, just south of the Broadway Station. They could knock out a panel within the Canada Line station, which I believe is on the west side of the upper level. Then connect that to a tunnel running to the Expo Line (south), and under Broadway (north). Or they could make it confusing, like it is at Waterfront...

I would be interested in how they would build the Millenium Line station at this point, seeing that it could be a fair bit deeper than your typical cut and cover station. Although, when you think about it, there have been pretty deep excavations for some of our skyscrapers.

The Evergreen Line doesn't have near the same population base to draw from that the expo line has. In order for the Evergreen Line to realize its full potential, people need the option of either going to central Broadway or going downtown. Plus it would take a lot of pressure off Broadway station, and the expo line itself.

I guess it's more of a transit fantasy but it would be fairly easy and relatively inexpensive (300 million?) to split the m line up at false creek flats so that you have a connection to downtown vancouver. It's just a short run down main st., then turn west in the rail yards to tie in at waterfront.

I think most people would agree with you. Nothing has to make sense when politics is involved.

Haha, by E-Line i mean Evergreen Line.

Vancouver is not the best for making it easy to distinguish between lines. 2 will start with the letter E and two are currently coloured blue, haha.

I thought you meant Expo line and to branch it at Broadway station.

Many cities use NUMBERS to identify their lines; Paris being a prime example, although there are other cities, too. Is that unthinkable in Vancouver? Could we abandon the corny names and go "digital?"

"... oh No-o-o-o, it's part of our heritage ..."

When the number of SkyTrain lines hits 4 or 5, or when people start getting confused, a more systematic way of identifying each line will be implemented. At the moment, we can stick with the names "Expo", "Canada", and "Millennium" to identify each line. That's my take on it.

I don't know if I would want to get on bus #100111111 at my house, oh never-mind you didn't say binary.

We do already have a 2, 3, 4.... bus lines, which IS part of our streetcar based numbering heritage. Numbers only make sense when you have a lot of lines, with multiple lines crisscrossing at stations, and the city is uninspired enough to think of names with any meaning.

You might think names are corny, but I think numbers are boring. I would rather have 2 E-lines when you go shorthand than have lame brain numbers. Most people in Vancouver even call the buses through downtown by their names/destinations as who wants to mentally associate numbers with places. Heck, I know people who hate Surrey just for the fact the streets are all numbered ("Is everyone from Surrey so pathetic they couldn't find people to name streets after?" they say).

It would have been nice if they had come up with a name for the Evergreen line that didn't start with an E, and if they used the name Olympic Line instead of Canada Line (to reflect the Olympic legacy like the Expo line does), but I would still rather keep what we got than call it line 3 or 4. Zzzzzzzzzzz

We already have people (not only tourists) who are confused that Waterfront Station has three Skytrain Lines using two different platforms.

Even before Canada Line was opened, some people at Waterfront were confused that the Expo and Millennium lines used the same platform. I actually watched a family argue about whether the Expo or Millennium trains went to Metrotown from Waterfront.

In a few years it will be fun explaining to someone in PoCo that they can get to VGH by using the SkyTrain Evergreen Line train, take it to Lougheed Station where it becomes a SkyTrain Millennium Line train, then after passing through VCC Station it now becomes a SkyTrain Broadway Line train (running underground -- shouldn't it be called a TunnelTrain then?).
All while riding in the same train car.
Heads will explode from trying to process that.

No doubt people will take the Evergreen Line train to Lougheed, exit & wait on the same platform for the Millennium Line train coming from New West to take them to VCC, where they will change trains again (also without changing platforms) for the Broadway Line.
You know it will happen.

I definitely see that happening with the Evergreen line at Lougheed. One solution I see would be to do the exact same thing that we did with the opening of the Millennium line - Continue the Evergreen line designation alongside the Millennium line west of Lougheed Station. The green line would run along the length of the yellow colored Millennium Line from Lougheed to VCC. That way, people would understand that trains along that stretch are alternating between Millennium Line trains and Evergreen line trains, just like it is along part of the Expo line segment, with Expo and Millennium line trains.

As for the Broadway extension, I think that will be a continuation of the Millennium line. So on the maps, you would see the yellow stripe representing the Millennium line continue onwards past VCC.

My guess is that when (if) evergreen ever gets built, the line VCC-Clark to Coquitlam will become the Evergreen Line, and the Millennium line from Waterfront will terminate at Lougheed. Operationally it would be too difficult to schedule the Millennium to fit between trains on two separate lines (Expo and Evergreen) without delays. So the operation would look like this:
1. Expo - Waterfront to King George
2. Millennium - Waterfront to Lougheed
3. Evergreen - VVC-Clark to Douglas College

I still think the Canada Line route to/from YVR should have a separate line name.
