A quick Google search of Marriot Marquis shows decent ones (by hotel standards, anyway) in New York and San Francisco, but a god awful one in Atlanta.

wowwww.. The ATL one (and even SF) is horrendous! I feel like this is a development joke to see if we're awake...sorta like "This just in: Floating condos being built over town lake"

surely this won't happen?!?!

Those ones in ATL and SF are 1970s vintage John Portman designs with ginormous atriums

Its not like they would build something like that in 2011 in Austin.

I actually prefer the Atlanta design to the New York design.

Well they aren't locked into arranging the tower in the same way as the Hilton. the Hilton has two vertical shafts facing north and east. This tower could be like that, but folded. So instead of having the L shape that the Hilton does, it could be rectangular.

Not until after I posted it. I missed it because of the rendering. I only saw your first post.

I'm just glad we got two big downtown projects with tentative start dates and seemingly no financing issues. Maybe this is the beginning of the next boom.

God I'll just say it. I have so much to be proud of in Boise. But goddamn I am so jealous of Austin. You guys really do have one of the best, brightest, boomingest cities in the US right now.

I'm wondering what the colors for the tower portion will be. Hopefully not that gross tan color (from previous old render). It appears the base will have a metallic silver finish which looks handsome...It almost resembles the W's finish.

So that would be two 300+ foot hotels under construction on Congress Avenue at the same time. That's never happened before. In fact, the last time two skyscrapers were simultaneously under construction on Congress was in the late 80s when 100 Congress and One Congress Plaza were being built across the street from each other. These two new buildings will be 2 blocks apart.

Really pleasantly surprised by the Congress side of the project.... But Mr. Healy, don't hold your breath. That tower will either be tan or white! White Lodging will save that money somewhere. Like I said on the other thread... as least they kept the bland ( white or tan) box off Congress!

And , yes.... I really hope they land some retail space... but I bet that will be bar/restaurant facing Congress. Wouldn't you want to compete with 2nd accross the street! ( damn in... more people vying for that special corner seat! HA!)
