This was announced in the T&T last week but I forgot to post it here - too busy.

There are fewer than a thousand Touchdown Atlantic tickets left to be sold (out of 21,000) - all nosebleeds in the end zones.

If anyone is still interested in going to the game, I suggest getting your orders in now.

Are these available to the public?

Thanks, not actually interested, I am an NFL fan.

Just surprised that the event did not sell out.

At present, it would appear to be about a 97% sellout, which isn't too bad.

I'm not surprised that it didn't sell out in 36 hours like the first time. There is less of a novelty factor the second time around. Still, it's only about three weeks since the tickets went on sale so I'm generally pleased with the response. I have no doubt it will be a sellout again.

The slower ticket sales might have something to do with the NHL Pre-Season game at the Halifax Metro Centre on the same day between the Montreal Canadiens and the Boston Bruins (Stanley Cup Champions?). This game appears to be a sell-out (nearly 11,000 tickets sold).

Sounds like the Maritimes will be the centre of the Canadian sports universe on that particular day.

I think it says something that both events will likely be sellouts (over 30,000 combined tickets).

Moncton to get portable bleachers
Published Tuesday June 7th, 2011

The city secures deal with Tower Events, provincial and federal governments to cover costs
BY ALLISON TOOGOOD
TIMES & TRANSCRIPT STAFF

Mayor George LeBlanc says the City of Moncton has landed a great deal that will significantly beef up its recreation and entertainment inventory.

At last night's regular meeting, city council approved a partnership with Tower Scaffold Services Inc. that will see Moncton receiving slightly used, portable grandstand bleachers.

The provincial and federal governments will absorb the cost of the 12,500-seat bleachers for $3.5 million.

"I'm happy to report that with the continued assistance with the federal and provincial governments we will be able to add this to our recreation plan at no cost," LeBlanc said.

The additional portable seating will cover major events including future CFL games and the women's FIFA World Cup in 2015 at the Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium, says Ian Fowler, the city's general manager of economic development, tourism and culture.

The deal means that not only will Moncton be able to offer more seating for certain events at the stadium, concerts on the hill, or Rocky Stone field, the city can rent the seating out to other municipalities or event organizers.

Fowler says that it's a great business deal and the senior levels of government will see a direct return on investment.

He says that after renting the seating out at five or six events, the costs would likely be repaid.

"We will be able to rent out from our inventory and it will certainly help our bottom line in those types of events," he said.

"There's a potential with any event that the city can sublease to the promoter, just as we can lease them to other third-party groups."

The partnership guarantees a five-year warranty on the bleachers, which are made of aluminum decking and the uprights are made of steel.

Councillor Kathryn Barnes had concerns about repairs to the seating, should anything break. Fowler assured her that the bleachers are made of component pieces so if a piece were to break, it would be replaced under the five-year warranty. The installation falls under a local structural engineer's specifications.

"I guess we could look at this like a giant Lego set," he joked.

Fowler and other department officials presented a business case for the bleachers to senior levels of government as part of the city's entertainment infrastructure development.

The results of the meeting with government were then brought to council, the documentation was authorized and a private motion passed.

"We looked at it as a positive gain for us and our inventory and a positive return for the province and Canada.

"They viewed it in the same manner," Fowler said.

Coun. Brian Hicks was the sole member of council who didn't support the motion.

"With the infrastructure deficit, this may leave taxpayers wondering why this would be high on the city's wishlist, as there are much more important things that should be prioritized," he said.

Personal note: This is interesting. Why would the city go out and spend this (federal & provincial) money on 12,500 portable bleacher seats unless there was some reason behind it. Perhaps there are some legs to the rumour that the Tiger-Cats will be calling Moncton home for part of next season.

Interesting analysis re: CFL expansion with an emphasis on the Maritimes and Moncton in particular.

This is found on a website called CFL database. This appears to be an unofficial analysis, but I think it is quite thorough and thoughtful. It outlines the challenges ahead; for Moncton, Halifax and Quebec City.

The report is unbiased, which I find refreshing......

Nope, it's not a sellout but as far as I know only a few hundred nosebleed seats in the endzones are left.

The gold tickets would be good quality seats on the sidelines. If these are being offered, I imagine that these must be resold seats (scalpers), or being offered as part of a package.

There should be over 20,000 people at the game in any event.

I'm going to be there anyway.

I will be there again this year as well.

MonctonRad...last year there was entertainment like the street party (moved to the colliseum), East Coast Kitchen Party and more. This year I don't seem to be able to find any info about any such events. Is anything planned for this year? and if so could you point me to a link?

Thanks

The events planned this year will be very similar to the ones last year, including the high school and university games, street party, gala dinner and the tailgate party.

I will try to find you a link.

@MaritimeCFLFan

This info is from an article in the T&T earlier this week -

Quote:
The Friday and Saturday before the game on Sept. 25 will feature the all-day Touchdown Downtown street festival.

Plans for the festival aren't set in stone yet, but the set-up will be similar to other Moncton festivals, which involve closing down part of Main Street and bringing in booths, vendors and the concert stage.

The City of Moncton has yet to confirm the bands for Friday and Saturday night's concerts, that are set for roughly 6 p.m. each night.

Starting Thursday, Sept. 22, there will be a series of high school and university football match-ups at the Rocky Stone Field at Centennial Park. Thursday's game will feature l'Odyssée Olympiens and the Mathieu-Martin Matadors at 7 p.m. Friday afternoon will begin a double-header with Bernice MacNaughton Highlanders and Moncton High Purple Knights at 4 p.m. and the Tantramar Titans and Harrison Trimble Trojans at 7 p.m. Each high school game, presented by Economy Glass, will cost $3 for students and $5 for adults.

Of course the high school games lead up to the big university rematch between the Saint Mary's University Huskies and the Mount Allison University Mounties at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets to this game are $5 for students and $10 for adults.

As for Saturday night, there will be a special Pigskin Soirée at the Delta Beauséjour, presented by Scotiabank. The gala will feature a four-course meal, entertainment, a silent auction, Newfoundland comedian Trent McClellan as the master of ceremonies, as well as CFL personalities.

Ticket packages are still available for the gala and can also include Platinum Seating tickets to the Touchdown Atlantic game the following afternoon. Those interested in attending the soirée should contact Amy Richard at (506) 867-5800 ext. 5062.

Sunday, game day, brings the traditional tailgate party and Enbridge Family Barbeque starting at 10 a.m. in the field behind the stadium.

McBeath said the event is meant for all ages, so there will be separate areas for families and for those over 19 years of age who choose to drink. All alcohol and food will be provided at charge and people are asked to refrain from bringing their own cooler. Entrance to the tailgate party and barbeque is $5. Kids 14 years old and under get in for free.

Oh yes, and let's not forget about the game itself - Calgary versus Hamilton - at 2 p.m. at the Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium, immediately following the tailgate party and barbeque.

Long range forecast for Touchdown Atlantic weekend is for some showers Friday night, but for sun on both Saturday and Sunday.

It should be a glorious weekend!

The weather forecast has worsened somewhat during the interval, with rain likely on Saturday. The other days could be partly cloudy or showery depending on whichever meteorological service you trust......

You should try to take in the high school and university games earlier in the weekend if you can. You would be impressed by the school spirit!

My son is playing the BMHS/MHS game on Friday. The last I heard, they were trying to organize pipers and a horse to lead their procession into Rocky Stone Field.

How's the vibe in the city? Must be wild!

I'd love to check out TD Atlantic one year....if the Bombers end up playing one year, I'll be there!
