That seems to be quite a common comparison! They both definitely do well in terms of central density.

I love skylines. And construction is very exciting.

Or Chicago looks Canadian depending on your point of view. Regardless, Toronto could do with more office.

We can pray for office towers all we want but with the exception of 45 Bay at 245 meters, all the remaining plans for office towers are in the 200 meter and less range. Not bad, but as the photos above suggest that will not make even a small dent in an already emensely huge, and rapidly growing skyline like what we have here.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Parts of the Loop are incredibly out-of-scale and soulless.

Although many condo developments have the same effect...

All we need is three or four 250-350 m office buildings over the next 20 years between Queen and Bloor and it would make all the difference. I'd be surprised if it didn't happen. Patience!

Of course she does. She also knows outside of work I spend a great deal of time taking skyscraper pictures and posting them to websites like this.

Try 300m + and that's what it would take to get to the point Chicago is at NOW.

Don't know the market there but just maybe, they'll build some supertalls too no?

And overall, what's with all the TO is manhattanizing or it looks like it should be called changtario? What a waste of...

TO's skyline, imo, will never resemble any another city - it's too unique.

I'm certain that with what is happening with the developments in this city, it is just a matter of time before we get a supertall proposal. As for what to make of all this highrise and skyscraper construction, call it what you will manhattanizing, chicagoization, or just something that we have never seen before. I know that during the 1990's highrise construction in Toronto was sporadic at the best of times. So what is happening now doesn't seem real, for sure don't know what to make of it. What will the end result be, outside of hundreds of new skyscrapers in our downtown core? I don't know. All these Luxo hotels and skyscrapers, might bring some international cache. Mabye not. Toronto is developing into it's own unique very international and cosmopolitan city, what it means to our skyscraper future is anyone's guess, but likely not something we can put into words, terms, or catchphrases.

The buildings are still way too boxy to look like anything in Asia. And Chicago has too much history and such a density of office scrapers to be a proper comparison either. I agree Toronto's skyline is too unique to really compare to other cities.

calgary looks awsome. i love the downtown of calgary. i love the way it is layed out. some streets are narow and very walkable, while others are intense with auto traffic. lots of green, mixed with glass, steel, stone, brick, cement. a lovely combo that i have always been in love with. and now there is even some new types of cladding that are just Beautiful. imo
