I'm gonna say, keep it on the Parkway but look more at the area near Useless Overpass. Any chance there's enough land that can be used south of the Hollywood 18 and north of the Marine Corp center?

Raze the old store rebuild on that site with something new and innovative
a multi level concept, maybe an enclosed walkway over the Parkway to Parkway Place. Here is a chance to take the lead instead of creating an empty shopping strip and creating another asphalt wasteland somewhere else.

Here's the cold truth though. Wal-Mart isn't like Target where they'll just close a store for a couple months and let the revenue be diverted to other locations. They will keep a store open while the new one is being built because that means profit.

So, with that truth in mind(since we are talking about Wal-Mart), where would be the best location for a new Supercenter local to Central Huntsville?

How many Walmarts does HSV need? Is it necessary to never be more than 6 miles from a SuperCenter? Maybe Alabama should get rid of the REIT tax loophole that WalMart enjoys.

HSV only has 4 Wal-Marts, would expect more considering the size of HSV. B-Ham and Mobile both have 6 each.

-North Parkway at Sparkman
-South Parkway at Drake
-South Parkway at Hobbs
-Hampton Cove

And if we want to talk Madison County, then add in the Madison location to give us 6 Wal-Marts.

and the always rumored store in east Huntsville over Chapman Mountain
North Huntsville/Madison County frequent the Fayettville TN store as well, it's like a big made in China blanket covering the whole area

I support Target anyway since they've given better quality jobs to the Huntsville area(2 SuperTargets, a soon to be built regular Target, and a massive Distribution Center).

Yeah my county Mobile has 7, I always thought that Huntsville had more than that. Just seemed like it did, and within next year or so probably will lol

What Walmart should've done a while back is buy up that whole shopping center where Kroger and Virginia College are now and turned it into a Super Walmart. It would've gotten rid of the abandoned part that was vacant until recently when Virginia College moved in. Oh well, just seems like a missed opportunity to me.
Huntsville should just build the ever elusive downtown baseball stadium for the Stars, tear down Joe Davis, and Walmart could plop a supercenter right there.

Um, Wal-Mart actually used to be in that shopping center. Then in 1995, K-Mart shut down across the street and Wal-Mart decided to move across the street 2 years later(which is where they currently are). Because of that vacant Wal-Mart space, Kroger moved from the west end of the shopping center to the east end(where Wal-Mart used to be). The old Kroger space sat empty until Virginia College came in and took over the space.

So in reality, there's been a lot of redevelopment at the corner of Drake and South Parkway. Playing devil's advocate, can you really blame Wal-Mart for wanting to get into a brand new building after being in locations where the physical buildings were 20-30 years old to begin with? Hell, Wal-Mart even took over an old K-Mart building and that almost never happens.

Yeah, i remember that. I guess it would've been hard to talk Kroger out of their newly remodeled store so Walmart could build a new store there. Basically what I'm saying is that I can't think of any places around the Drake Walmart area that they could move to. I wonder if they will actually move any time soon or have any other locations in mind since the Airport project is a no go

What is the latest on the new Tennessee River bridge in south Madison County and North Morgan county?

After construction completed on the new northbound bridge a few years back, it appeared they had started on the ramp (south side) for the next new bridge and nothing has been done since then.

Also, anything new on the Southern Bypass? TIA!

i long for the day when i can log into this thread and read about a new skyscraper in my hometown instead of targets and wal-marts.

(not an attack on you guys... i just hate seeing huntsville's potential not being taken advantage of)

Hey guys, I'm gonna pull a no no and ask for y'all's help. My friend and I have been having a night out each week and we're looking this week for somewhere that neither of us have been to in Huntsville.

Last week we did The Brick in Decatur, and the week before we did The Nook in Huntsville.

So, we're looking for somewhere that has a good beer selection, or just a good drink selection in general. Nothing expensive. Just somewhere that y'all might no about that is a cool hangout.

Any ideas?

Lol I feel your pain. Here in Montgomery no new skyscrapers at least not in downtown since we have a new 6 story limit. Possibly after the economy really starts to get back in shape then maybe some real announcements will start rolling in. Most developers are still skittish of loosing their shirts with skyscrapers. Louisville's 65 story one fell through. Bham hasn't had a new one in what feels like decades that I know of. At least in downtown proper.

Montgomery has 4 in the city limits and a total of 6 in the metro. Not actually a great think to brag about but it pumps tax dollars to the cities.

It looks like some site-prep is going on next to Dicks Sporting Goods in Jones Valley. Does anybody have any info on what might be going there? (It's not Kohls, which is across and down the street and coming along very quickly)
