I saw a couple of very large cranes next to the North Temple viaduct. I wonder if they are going to complete the north side of it now.

I just checked and it says on the UTA website that they are placing girders so it seems you are correct.

Stevena07 I think that you're right that it was the original intention to build a University to the Airport line but read this recent article: http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/politics/51832189-90/cars-jordan-lines-mid.html.csp

"The new West Valley City line will extend TRAX by 5.1 miles between the Valley Fair Mall and the Central Pointe station at 2100 South. When it opens, it will run to the Salt Lake Central Station downtown. Eventually, that line will extend to the Salt Lake City International Airport in 2013."

Tomorrow I will be attending an open house of the new TRAX facility in South Salt Lake and riding a new TRAX train on the West Valley Line!!! Sorry fellas, UTA employees only. I'll see if i can snap a couple photos and I'll describe the new trains for y'all.

I got to wondering why they had to build a very expensive Frontrunner station on (under) the North Temple viaduct only four blocks -- a half a mile -- from the Salt Lake Central station. The only advantage would be to be for Airport trains to bypass the Central station and go directly to the airport from downtown. This seems to defeat the purpose of a central hub.

Thanks for the link. Just to highlight what is covered, Delta's SLC to Paris route will operate daily come this winter as opposed to 5x per week as it had been the last few years. The summer schedule remains daily as well. This comes at a time when Delta recently announced a large reduction in trans-atlantic service from other cities. So when SLC sees its only trans-atlantic route increase, it shows how well this route has been doing. And it has. Also, Utah is definitely seeing a much higher number of European tourists than before when we didn't have this route.

On a side note, SLC-Tokyo resumed a few days ago. The route was slated to go to daily service as well this summer but after the Earthquake in Japan, it was cut back to 5x per week. Maybe next year we will see it go daily. The number of Japanese tourists coming in on these flights is also large. The airport usually sees two or three tour busses each day picking up Japanese tourists to go see the National Parks and the SLC vicinity.

If only Americans traveled as much as Europeans and the Japanese do, we could have a lot more cool routes out of here.

Weren't they originally going to have the seats around the sides facing the center? Some of them in the photo look totally cramped. Are my eyes deceiving me? 0.o

You have to keep in mind that the hub also connects to UTA buses, Greyhound buses, and Amtrak.

The seats are my only concern as well. I'm 5'6" and my feet could barely touch the ground. They are a bit more comfortable than the current seats but they should be closer to the ground for shorter people like me IMO.

The ride was smooth. The train has springs, so if you jump inside, the entire car will bounce a little bit. The train accelerated faster, moved more quietly, and turns weren't screechy.

Another thing to get excited about is how you can see goats, llamas, and emus from inside the train on the section of track that runs near the Jordan River.

I strongly dislike the color scheme of the seats as well. The rest looks great.

So there must be wheels located under those seats then right? It's nice that they're low floor but I guess a tradeoff is that they can't flat, open seating arrangements that we're used to with the high floor vehicles. They almost look like children's booster seats the way that they sit on those white plastic boxes.

Those seats would look more natural if they had slot machines parked in front of them.
