I don't know about the Swiss Chalet, but I have seen signs for Harvey's in Place Riel.

I would be extremely surprised if Moxies was closing/converting, as it is always super busy there! If anything, this city could use a second location for Moxies (and The Keg, and Earl's). I know these are chain restaurants, and I fully support the independents, but it is often so hard to get in to the 3 restaurants noted, that we really could use second locations.

Is the Condo and Hotel project at River Landing not going ahead? It is May already and no news and nothing is happening.

Lake Placid has nothing to do with River Landing Village anymore.

GTR. There has been news about what is happening, so you must have missed it. There is a thread dedicated to the project. So it should get you up to [the lack of] speed.

I don't believe this is on the River Landing Village thread, but the most recent news from the owner/developer (Dr. Nasser) was that for the time being, the property is going to be a surface parking lot as they are currently reviewing the plans that were developed by Lake Placid. He is still adament that funding IS in place to proceed, but it is now the design element under review. He did indicate that profits from the parking lot would go to charity.

I'm still skeptical, as even the parking lot hasn't moved ahead yet....

Moxies is not closing or converting to a Swiss Chalet. However, Harvey's is opening in Lower Place Riel.

There were plans for an Earls in the parking lot of the Stonebridge Wal-Mart, right across from the Tony Roma's. I'm not sure what happened with it.

Yes, it is going ahead. They are just doing some minor redesign (on the plaza, mostly) and will likely be breaking ground near the end of the summer if the city is quick in approving the revised design.

I liked a lot of what I read in that article too, the city needs to step things up... the bare minimum is a theme that's ruled Saskatoon far too long! The only thing that seemed a little odd was making University Drive and College a major intersection!?!? Seriously...? And making Cumberland one way... I guess that kind of makes sense except for the effects that change would have on transit

Just a thought.

According to the website for Cabela's Canada (see link to write-up below), they plan to hire approx 100 people for the Saskatoon Cabela's store from Saskatoon and area. Construction on the store is scheduled to start in July 2011 at Preston Crossing. I suspect Saskatoon's Cabela's will become a destination store for many Saskatchewan people, just like people travel here specifically to shop at Saskatchewan's only Lululemon. It's great that Saskatoon is the priority location in the province for these high quality, specialty stores to set up. I think Saskatoon reaching and surpassing that magic 250,000 population number (now pushing 270K metro) has helped big-time in such stores taking notice.

Just a note that Cabela's has been looking at Regina for the past 2 years or so. I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Not really a store that interests me however.

So I finally figured out what was going on with the elevator shafts on the holiday inn.

Apparently the design/building process is a gong show and they forgot to frame in an opening for the top floor. Not even joking. They have to cut a whole in it now hahaha...

This sums up Saskatoon's planning perfectly and I want the city to recognize that they are just building mediocrity. The only urban redevelopment that has been truly successful are the centre medians added to 25th street and 3rd Ave. It's about time the city started to think more strategically and planned for the future Saskatoon, not for the present.

What a beautiful day! Summer is finally here and I can't wait to see some projects break ground... I went biking by the weir today... hoping for that hydro project to get a move on... any word on that?
