I know its off subject but the Beekman looks great at night.
You're right! You can already picture how beautiful 1wtc is going to look when it's done. I know there has been a lot of talk about the spire. But if it's done right, it can look so beautiful at night! I believe it will be!
i bet we end up with something similar to the titanium base of 7 WTC.
That might work, or somehow incorporate the old WTC cathedral look at the bottom, as an homage to the originals.. with slight changes to match the current style. I think that would look nice.

Just got back from a trip to NYC, and I couldn't help but head down to the World Trade Center and see all the progress for myself.
(I also played around with photomerge )
It's starting to become like the Empire State Building in that while you're wondering around it keeps popping up in sight...and I think that's an awesome milestone for it.
(This is a great line-of-sight view from the Statue of Liberty Ferry line.)

Nice photos and progress here...
Such a shame with the base of the building, I want to see it clad ASAP just cause it looks so ugly right now with the cladding above it. Hopefully they find an equal and/or a better solution for it!
Where will be the Parking Garage ??
And Why does One World Trade Center, according to Wikipedia will have 105 floors and even 100 floors..It's boring...It's not taller than twin...Even Willis is taller than that with 110 floors..Will we be able to go to the roof for an Observatory Deck,Just like South Tower..?
And also,When will we be able to see the progress at One World Trade Center base...Will they install windows or anything else...Can you give a picture of what it's gonna look now they cancelled a project..?
The new WTC is taller than the old. Floors mean absolutely nothing.
At which floor will the floor plate or footprint comprise a perfect octagon? It looks like the framing is getting pretty close to that now.
Well, judging that it's 20 floors out of 108 for the base, and the rest makes up the antiprism, it's (108 - 20)/2 so half of 88 which is 44- add that to 20 and it gets you 64. So we're actually, now the steel is there on floor 66, so 2 floors down from it's current height is a perfect octagon.
We should have a FAQ on the first page of this thread. Personally I understand people asking the same questions again and again because it would be a lot of pages to read through for any new person and that would be unreasonable to ask of them, but a Frequently Asked Questions link would be very convenient and helpful.

I was crucified for making this suggestion before, even though it is an excellent and ridiculously obvious solution to repeated questions.

Me no understando.
Surely the midpoint of a square antiprisom is where the octagon is? And 64 is the midpoint on the tower?

I know...
I play dumb and re-post this idea every now and then, as if I had never heard of it before and I just thought of it.
One day common sense will prevail.

Your logic is impeccable but in practice it doesn't work because the floors are arbitrarily numbered.
The first 20 floors are actually more equal to 14 floors of 13'4" each, like most of the other floors.
I am not exactly sure of the math (Here is where Zen would step in and fill us all in) but trust me, 72 is the Octagon floor.

Yeah, I just went back to my sketchup model of the tower. I see that because it is not a regular antiprism, then the same formula won't apply. Because the fact that the top 'square' fits at 45 degrees with the midpoints of the base square, the taper angle pushes the octagon upwards to just above midpoint.
