Lumiere has a slightly better view than ROCP next door, just cause it's slightly more centered with the skyline (by skyline i mean the main action, CBD + CN tower), but no, Toronto may look "close" to manhattan, but at street level, you see the numerous numerous holes/gaps/emptiness.
but it's my hometown, i feel at home here, (yes... i know... it is sweet) and besides, there's more of a boom here, which equals greater changes in our skyline so you can watch the city grow!

Hey smarty pants how did you know that photo was taken at Lumiere?

Other than the obviously new perspective of the skyline from there.

The Fox and Fiddle Bar on the site of (The) Pinnacle on Adelaide is now closed. Site clearing may begin shortly.

Speaking of Manhattan and proposals...

I wonder if any Canadian city will ever have a development similar in stature compared to the new WTC site going up. I'm guessing probably not in the near future, but who knows. Maybe Toronto in 30 or 40 years, but I figure even that would be a stretch.

No. the WTC project is WAAAAAY insane (insanely good of course). the sheer size and scale of the whole project is an amazing thing. respect

We're building 4x faster than Manhattan/New York with about half the highrises they have there, the math doesn't seem to rule out the possibilty of a downtown of a similar size at some point in the future although with an obvious hieght disadvantage.

true, but toronto's downtown isn't as fully "developed" as Manhattans, we still have plenty of parking lots, and low-low-rises that need be replaced, we've been having all these buildings built outside of downtown, and it's time to start building up in the city (not suburbs), the only areas in which i'll agree need to be developed is the west side of midtown manhattan (the area with all those proposed big buildings)

though it is impossible, i wish our city had more of those older chicago buildings, very classy to have in your city,
and get rid of "delta chelsea" type of buildings.

Toronto also needs to get an iconic office tower (ideally a supertall!) to join the ranks of FCP, and Scotia during this building boom. Trump is a skinny little filler with a cheater spire that doesn't count. Aura is basically an over-sized condo in my book. And From there you get to Shangri-La, Ritz, 4 Seasons, L Tower..etc, which although have excellent designs, are relatively small scale. I just think it would be kinda sad if Toronto lost out during this boom to build something monumental, other than just luxury hotels, condos, and anything else afraid to go higher than 900 ft. If you want to be Manhattan, you might want to think bigger and taller IMO.

I wasn't talking about height so much. As Whippersnapper loves to point out at ground level can you really tell the difference between 220 meters and 250 meters?

At present I believe we have close to 20 towers around 200 meters still to be completed or begin construction, these towers will help create a more big city feeling at ground level. And of course this will help with the skyline as well.

Wow is right. 5-6 years ago when this boom started, 49 and 58 storeys would be huge news. It's almost become expected and typical news now, hearing about proposals of this height coming out every other week or so. The next generation of developments to hit the market is loaded.

With Residences of College Park South & North, Murano North & South and now these 58 floors twins condo towers, won’t there be too many twins towers in the area?

It might not be the tallest, but it still looks like it'd be pretty "iconic" to me.

So three 58 story towers proposed within the space of 2 business days and it's not even newsworthy.

All 3 Towers will come in between 190 and 200 meters, not big news at all in this city.

This is getting scary.

^^ Look on the bright side: it means that Toronto is moving up in the world when it takes a 250+ proposal to get our attention. I bet people in Manhattan don't get too much in a huff over a 58 floor building either. It takes something like Tour Verre or the new WTC these days.

I like that render a great deal as well, but it doesn't have the scale and presence to rival the iconic towers in Manhattan. Honestly, it will be hard for any city to build something as iconic as the Empire State Building or Chrysler Building. It might happen, but 45 Bay isn't that building. It's fabulous for only 245 m though. Maybe if it were 345 m, and ended up looking as metallic as it appears Toronto would finally have that iconic building we seem to be craving.

At least we have the Canadian National tower. Without that, we'd be just another big north American skyline city. Goes to show that iconic monoliths do make a difference.

What about the CN Tower? That is the most iconic building in the Toronto skyline.

If this somehow turns out to not just be a massive bubble (very unlikely), Chicago will seriously have to start looking in the rear-view mirror. We're still waiting on those supertalls, but fortunately the more common 200+ metre towers become in Toronto, the less out-of-reach 300+ metres will seem. These days it's hard to find lots in Toronto that aren't already spoken for. That's why we're seeing projects like these most recent two; going right over existing buildings. Downtown Toronto's just beginning to experience scarcity of land - something that will create fertile ground for supertalls.
