I was under the impression that BRT would have a dedicated lane on 3500 S, I am guessing that dedicated lane BRT will be the precursor to Trax on 3500 S.

Yah, I read that the BRT on 3500 S. would eventually be converted to TRAX. Long before TRAX, when there were only busses, the Magna bus (on 3500 S) had the highest ridership of any route in the UTA system.

The intersection of 3500 S and 5600 West will be a nice area for some TOD's there once the Airport line is extended down 5600 West towards Daybreak. That is in the plans for towards the end of the 30 year plan.

Makid can you tell me where you got this information?? I think it only makes sense to have BRT as a precursor to TRAX down 3500 S, otherwise it just seems to just be a short line to nowhere. I'm guessing ridership projections depend on a lot of passengers transferring from BRT to TRAX near Valley Fair.

The information comes from the Wasatch Front Regional Council planning maps and information.

BRT will be there until there is high enough demand for Trax. At that point, they will begin a Trax extension from the West Valley Intermodal Center to 5600 where it will meet the Airport Trax extension.

If we keep our current growth rate for the Valley over the next 30 years, I would expect that both the Airport extension down 5600 W and the West Valley extension down 3500 South would be done in the next 20 years.

Sandy neighbors seek to derail TRAX park and ride

SANDY — LeeAnn Evans accepts that she can't stop oncoming trains.

But she's not afraid to stand in the way of cars or buses.

Evans and several of her neighbors are hoping to derail the Utah Transit Authority's plans for a park-and-ride lot to serve the now-under-construction TRAX station at 11400 South and about 400 East.

They say putting a parking lot in an otherwise residential area would be detrimental to the neighborhood. [article]

They're complaining about a parking lot.... Don't they realize they're in Sandy?

It doesn't matter where or what it is; Parking Lot, buried power line, street, new retail, new homes. NIMBY!

Don't they realize that Trax stations have to have people get to them. YOU LIVE IN SANDY, PEOPLE IN SANDY DON'T WALK ANYWHERE! If a park and ride isn't built, people will simply park throughout the entire neighborhood rather than in a lot. A lot seems better from my point of view, rather than all over the neighborhood streets.

Interesting comment by one person on that article. Apparently educated people choose to live in Sandy and nowhere else. What an arrogant prick, that's why people HATE SANDY you stupid DB.

I completely agree, and reading the comments that others have made renewed my faith in humanity. Normally the comments on such articles make me embarrassed to be a Utahn, but they are nearly all along the lines of what what most of us would say. It seems that public perception of public transit in Utah may have turned an important page.

I loved this one:

Oh, people of Sandy. Your whining and sense of entitlement continues to amaze me. Having the sun set later on your side of the valley doesn't make your status in the human race any higher than the rest of us

I don't know if this is old news, but I saw an electric hybrid UTA bus today. I didn't even know hybrid buses existed.

Certainly not a conspiracy, but also nothing to be too impressed by. Common for officials to give a timeline that is much too long and then when they complete earlier than said (in other words, what it really should have been...), they can get praise for efficiency. Glad it's done though!

Bangerter makeover concerns existing business owners
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/70537...r-concerns-existing-business-owners.html

Proposed changes to Bangerter Highway threaten to eliminate those advantages — and, Johnson says, put McDonald's and neighboring stores out of business.

The Utah Department of Transportation wants to remove signals from the intersection at 200 West on Bangerter Highway and create a new, freeway-style interchange at 600 West.

The goals of the project, UDOT officials say, are to reduce existing traffic congestion, improve safety and meet future traffic needs on I-15 off-ramps at Bangerter Highway and at the 200 West intersection.

I took a friend to the airport today, but I forgot my camera. I was amazed to see the progress on the Airport TRAX line. They already have track laid down within the boundaries of the airport and along I-80. They must have laid down ballast recently because I saw one of those sweeping vehicles running along the tracks and brushing the rocks aside. The spot where the Airport station is being built is partially fenced off and dug up.

Wow! It looks very European! I'm also curious as to where this is. Daybreak?

This also makes me wonder if they plan on improving the University line stations, especially with all the vandalism. I love the way the red brick Sandy stations look but the University stations are not very easy on the eye and are easily vandalized with key scratches. However, UTA is going through a lot right now and I doubt station improvement is much of a priority at this time.
