Not sure where best to post the following, but Mark Brand did an interview with Scout about the old Save on Meats site on Hastings. Sounds interesting:

And the flying pigs are staying!

700 West 8th as seen from the alley. There is greater separation between the new building and the hotel than I had thought; certainly more than on the east side.

The small park on the south side of Social is coming along nicely. It is meant to evoke the flow of Brewery Creek, which runs through the site.

Nice!

I seriously look forward to these updates, SFU. So much so, that the other day I was getting antsy just waiting for them.

Thanks; I certainly like doing them. I have to add that I am hoping that someone will step in to continue the updates when I move to Toronto in the fall for graduate school.

Moving to Toronto eh? That should be interesting. I'll have to step up to the plate then, once I get a good digital slr.

I'm very excited. I got early acceptance to Ryerson's Master's of Urban Development planning school. Here's an okay quality Blackberry camera phone photo of the school that I took while I was back east in January visiting the graduate schools to which I applied. The building is located within the larger Ryerson University precinct downtown and is about a block away from Dundas Square.

I would love to have a DSLR too, but I'm pretty happy with my handy Panasonic Lumix TZ2. It's not especially fancy but it has a good Leica lens, 10x optical zoom, wicked image stabilization and the thing is built like a tank, plus it can fit into the pocket of my jeans in a pinch. The colour has always seemed a little washed out to me and that's a fairly common critique for the Lumix series, from what I can gather. Still, it's proven to be just about the best $400 I have spent when I consider the hundreds if not thousands of hours of enjoyment I have got out of it from doing my walkabout photo tours, not to mention vacation and every day photos. The forum is in very good hands with you behind the lens, Vanman.

most automatic settings gives that washed out look - you can correct it in photoshop with curves 99% of the time

Broadway Tech Centre

2910 Virtual Way

pics by me

completion is scheduled for 2012, and the 8th/final building on the campus should begin construction soon after (they're pre-leasing now and Bentall bought land adjacent for themselves?)

Broadway tech centre has absolutely exploded in recent years. What used to be a set of warehouses is now a tonne of shiny low-rise office buildings (better than office parks). If any of you haven't been in that area in some time, I recommend taking a look. Even the view off of the Millennium Line is quite impressive. I'd like to see what the employment numbers in that area are like now vs. say, 5 years ago.

Lots of stuff going on in that area. The building just west of the Art Institute is being torn down, presumably for the next phase of the Renfrew Business Centre. It's nice to see so much office space going up right next to transit...Renfrew was one of the most underused stations on the entire system but it's much busier now that AI's there. Should be a cool place once the projects on both sides of Renfrew Street are built out. And I think the Renfrew Business Centre includes some retail IIRC...

Are there any plans for more residential density in the area?

Anyone know the FAR of Broadway Tech Centre? It seems like the kind of development that would have a surprisingly high level.

Well I hope everything goes well for you in the big smoke. You come off as very intelligent and articulate, and any school would be lucky to have you as part of their roster.

Not sure as it was done in so many phases, I do know the property next door (3000 E Broadway) Bentall is looking at an FSR of 3.0. I would imagine that the exisiting project (2900 E Broadway) once all the phases are complete will be around 3.0 as well.
