Good finds and good idea for Route 2!

The only problem I see is that the highway might actually be longer than what it is now, which would cause a lot of arguments that it takes the same amount of time, yada yada yada... I wonder if it would also work if the highway was widened (there is plenty of room between the TCH and Winsloe), but if it formed a direct route between where your proposal crosses current Route 2 and the area just past Springvale. Either way, I agree that something must be done! Commuter traffic between Winsloe/Milton and the city itself is quite heavy.

Not only that, the residential area in winsloe is starting to build up. Oh and I forgot to say, my proposed highway would be a 4 line divided highway. Interchanges would be either on the 223 or where the new highway would cross route 2. This could also provide an opportunity to develop the land on the west side of route 2 bordering sherwood road. If the Royalty Power Centre was extended to sherwood road, and that intersection was developed, perhaps you could add on to it was some light commercial (offices, small businesses etc.) then add a buffer of appartment buildings or duplexes/townhouses followed by single family residential to connect with the current properties.

Very true. In the last year I've seen at least three 3-storey apartments in the centre of Winsloe. Plus I like them. Winsloe has potential to be its own community (albeit suburban) with a good variety of residential options. If they keep building the current style, I've got no problems!

Plaza Corp Development to begin?

Very large construction equipment has been dropped off and parked on the vacant lot across from Peter Pan and behind the Superstore (Chtown Mall location).
I mean LARGE equipment, meant to move large amounts of earth.

Is this the beginning of the proposed Plaza Corp Shopping complex?

Can Charlottetown support all this proposed retail? It doesn't have the large hinterlands of the mainland cities in NB & NS. Also, what will this mean for the downtown? The unique downtown stores in Charlottetown contribute greatly to the appeal of the city, especially for visitors. If they can't compete with the new suburban centres, what will happen to the core?

I wish that a crystal Palace like place went into this mall, PEI doesn't have much of anything for little kids when cavendish isn't open, or on rainy cold days. I think putting that into the new mall would bring huge potential for it, maybe a hotel withit aswell

I tend to agree with MonctonRad on this issue. Charlottetown should be focused on concentrating retail in the downtown, or in existing malls / shopping centres etc. For example, the Royalty Power Centre still has tons of available space and parts of downtown are ripe for commercial development, case in point the new Running Room store on Uni Ave. From what I've seen in the Maritimes, spreading out retail isn't good for anybody.

Perhaps part of the development could be residential? The eastern half seems a bit separated by the trail, and the area could use a few apartments/townhouses and such.

Here's hoping this will be a good new area, and also that downtown will be able to keep it coming with dvelopment as well!

That Plaza Corp project is the same one I posted a link to. For now its just a Sobeys and a little strip mall and a drive thru restaurant.

Creekside Apartments

Here is a rendering of the apartment building going up on North River
Road. They have the first floor parking garage well underway.

I hope they change the grey on the front side though.

It looks like a very typical suburban apartment building, although a step up for the North River Road area. The city is certainly hopping!

Some news:

The Cornerstone Church in Stratford (off the TCH by Shakespeare Drive) will start construction soon, as will the Stratford Quick Stop, the land is cleared there.

Also, the buildings by the waterfront are almost demolished to make way for the convention centre. And when that happens, the Welsh-Owen Hotel will start, and round and round we go!

GAP clothing store to be built across from Walmart

Ground is now being prepared for a new GAP store across from Walmart. (see todays Guardian).

PlazaCorp's development will soon make a major announcement on the tenants
for it's stores on Spencer Dr. Word is the old warehouse will be renovated and turned into a Costco. Tenants are to be announced.

We'll soon see!

At the Plazacorp site, the equipment has begun moving earth and for several weeks now there has been interior renovatring taking place at the old Clover Farm warehouse.

Things are on the move!

There is a lot going on this summer in Summerside. The new Summerside Presbyterian Church is currently under construction next to Three Oaks Senior High School. They have already tore down the old building and the foundation is finnished. I'd try to get a picture but the site is at a higher elavation the the surounding land, so its hard to capture everything. I will keep you posted once the build starts though. Also there is come nice condos off water street being built, the Hyundai dealership is coming along great, kinda looks like there is going to be more on that site than I originally thought. We are getting an A&W and I seen surveyors on the County Fair Mall/Sobeys corner the other day and today there was a backhoe on the lot, so perhaps that is where it's going. They will also finally be finishing up the downtown work. Also they are renovating the Loyalist hotel and have put in some condos. Looks good right now, I'll post some pics when its done.

That's a nicely designed church. I like the fact they stayed somewhat traditional.

It never was a traditional building to begin with. Here is a picture before the old one was torn down. It's hard to see with the sign in the way but you can get the idea.

Has anyone heard about a strip mall going up behind the Irving in Montague?? I was told there is one going up but don't know if its true.

Really? That would be a perfect lot to develop, right off Main and it's damn ugly right now. I've always thought Rink St and Brook St would be good areas to expand retail/apartments onto, it would help create a better downtown and they already have some draws: Dynasty Restaurant, Greco Pizza, Kent, etc. Plus you would have workers walking to shops and retaurants from On-Line Support, Addictions Canada, Academy of Learning etc. This would be a step in the right direction for Montague. Thanks for the news!
