No problem. I definitely encourage you to check it out. There's a whole lot more going on over there and we would definitely welcome your input. I actually think most people left here for city-data.com. It sure seems that way.

I vastly prefer the forums here at ssp. Most of the users here are posting relevant information about new developments, transit, etc, while on city-data it seems to be mostly a forum full of "where to move" threads and nonsense arguments about which neighborhood is more racist or how dangerous MARTA is. Lots of suburbanites postulating with no real substance.
Just my opinion and with the exception of NYbyWAYofGA's posts, of course.

Aw "shux," why thank you Shivtim! I do agree with you that city-data is a bit less focused on development information and the forumers tend to get sidetracked by negative postings. I just left a post basically expressing how frustrating it is to try to have positive discussion when people tend to be hellbent on obsessing over negative things. With that said, SSP is really good for getting to the nitty gritty of development news and information.

Getting back to construction and development, does anyone have any news on the Onyx condo development that was supposed to go up a while ago in Midtown on 10th btw Peachtree and Piedmont, right next to Blue MedSpa? I know that there was this dispute between the condo developers and the spa that may have killed it. If Onyx has been cancelled, has anything else been planned for that site?

I think the main reason it has been so dead on here (for the past year or so) is just because there is not much construction going on. Later this year I think we will have plenty to discuss. Such as:

Streets of Buckhead
hotel on 10th and williams
College Football HOF
National Center for Civil & Human Rights
Atlanta Streetcar
etc...

GTdan, I sure hope so. It looks like things are definitely picking up. I really miss the development discussions on here.

It's not super exciting, but initial work is continuing on the new LEED-gold 12 story building on CDC's Buford Highway campus (near the intersection with Chamblee Tucker Rd). They've already cleared away the one story building that was on the site.

Any news on the Cox Enterprises tower near Perimeter Mall? They were supposed to break ground in 2010.

Also on the not-super-exciting side.... on the southwest corner of W. Peachtree and 4th St they demolished the little Catholic Georgia Bulletin building a few months ago and are building something in its place. Anybody know what's being built?

It is the new Suntrust branch, scheduled for completion in August. The current branch is now owned by Georgia Tech and will be demolished for the next phase of Tech Square.

^Wow, the second building is topped-out already? I'm surprised we've seen/heard so little about it. I know it's in the 'burbs, but it's pretty much the only mid-rise construction taking place in the entire metro area.

Not much to see really, it's just a box, nothing spectacular. I see everyday from Dunwoody station.

I don't have a picture, but what's happening with that old highrise near Centennial Olympic Park Drive and Ivan Allen Boulevard, just north of the Union Mission? It's covered in some sort of black mesh. Is it being demolished, remodeled, or what?

It is the old Palmer house and it's being demolished. It cannot be imploded because the risk of damaging nearby buildings is too great.

I know they are disapointing i wish they could have done something more with them. Or combined them into one tower

I remember back a few years ago there would be a new building announced every week or so. They were exciting times. This board was alive Unfortunately a lot of them never saw the light of day.
