They were cutting at the foundation of that house today. Hard to believe it's being moved vs. knocked down.

My family knows the family who owns Kelseys and the rent was literally doubled on them all of a sudden. I always had bad service when I went there anyways.

You're hard pressed to find a table anywhere on 8th street without having to wait half an hour between 5-7. Seems that you would still be able to turn a healthy profit despite the rent increase.

If a Brazilian Grill is anything like a Brazilian Wax, it may be difficult to have a restaurant where all you serve is completely clean plates, har har.

That's what was happening at Sew & Home when it was still on eighth, that's what prompted the move.

I went up to the "Weird House" on College and Clarence to see what was happening and the story is it has to be moved by the end of March or it will have to be demolished. Apparently the owner is going to move it out of town somewhere and is going to leave it up on blocks till he decides a use for it.
The word is that Remai has bought the property and will probably be putting up a condo. Surprise, surprise. All of this information came from the movers which I believe is accurate but till we hear for sure it's all just rumors.

^^ Back of the weird house. Looks like the pigeons will have to find a new home.

^^ Parking lot to the rear of the weird house is larger than I thought.

^^ You can just see some of the little dolls and things placed in stone work.

^^ Off loading some timbers and steel for the move.

^^ Crane coming down at the U of S. On the right the intersection of College & Clarence where the weird house
will spend it's last few days. Prime property which deserves something spectacular.

Agree 100%. However, a quick glance at the recent Remai portfolio leads me to believe it will be something less than that.

^ Indeed. Did a quick Google search and found site renderings for Remai's project at College and Clarence off of the Meewasin website.

10 page PDF file with renderings of the 4 storey project HERE.

A nice looking project I must admit. Certainly the best design Remai has ever come out with. But lacking in height for such a prominent corner, IMO. Still good to see... mirrors the J.B. Black project very well in creating a new design aesthetic and scale for College Drive.

^ Good find. It does look a little more inspired that other recent Remai offerings, though they aren't really embracing the wide sweeping corner as well as I think they should.

20 stories? maybe 5-6. Something that tall: 1) would be completely out of scale for the neighbourhood and 2) would never get past the local community.

and reading down further I see it's actually going to be 4 stories.....

This looks quite 'institutional' to me....maybe it is just the renderings...hope finished project has more of an impact. However, this certainly IS a departure for a Remai development (at least they are trying to move into the 21st Century...

Also noticed that the floor plans are pretty small for such a prime piece of real estate. Not sure who they are targeting with the largest unit looking to be just under 1200sq ft and units as small as 675sq ft. If these are top end condos, you would think they would all be a minimum of 1100sq feet???

Any info on time frame for construction??

That's not a small building and will require alot of trees, lights and power lines moved to get it out of the city.. I know how much some of this costs and it's hard to believe the house is worth that much.

I think that building would be best at six stories but I have to say my socks have been blown right off knowing Remai produced that! I'm a bit disappointed with the excessively large patio and small unit to accompany it. I think something a little bit more innovative such as a condo pool or really swank patio with panoramics of the d/t could have been designed.
