Gee! Regina is getting one, Halifax is getting one, and I'm sure others are too, but Calgary can't seem to get it together to get one too!

Gotta love the name.

Centre Square Place -- the three most overused terms in real estate combined into one!

Yes,truly original and unique

I agree, for a condo development that is striving to be somewhat cutting edge in design and function, for Regina, they sure fumbled the ball on the name. Must have contracted the office temp in the office for free coffee for the week to come up with that truly original moniker!

Three new buildings for the Southland Mall property. No tenants disclosed yet. Two buildings along Gordon Road and one on Albert.

NOOOO!! They really need to develop some mid-rise apartments along that strip. There is going to be way to much commercial in that small area especially with Harbour Landing.. This would at least allow for the businesses in the area too evolve and for the possibility of the mall to gain some higher end or special tenants. The short sightedness of this is sick.

They would do great in the mall. It doesn't look like there is room in Grasslands for them.
The proposed CRU beside the Zeller's is only 6000 sq ft so too small for a Mark's The one one on the NE corner looks to be the right size. As you know CT owns Marks and they are often next to each other.

The Mark's in the plan actually IS in the mall, not one of the three new buildings. It takes up a part of the former Walmart space that Zellers wasn't going to use, if I read the plan correctly. It also shows three smaller stores in that space, proposed to be Children's Place and Aeropostale.

Right, I see that now on the plan. That only leaves 95,000 feet from the old WalMart. According the the Financial Post:

the typical Target store is 125000 to 180000 square feet

It seems unlikely Target will be going there. They could probably squeeze into Grasslands, but WalMart might have an exclusive. Also I cannot think of anywhere on the East side for them. They could probably go in the new big box development on Pasqua North.

But didn't Target BUY the Zellers stores KNOWING what size they were? The Zellers in Southland mall was downsized from the Walmart size to the Zellers size BEFORE Target took over Zellers so wouldn't Target have know the size of properties they were getting into?

I'm pretty sure Target doesn't intend to convert every single Zellers store.

Zellers is also keeping some of their stores if I remember reading correctly. Target is just buying out some of the leases and converting them.

I am pretty sure Zellers is done as a brand in Regina. Quote from Wikipedia:

On January 13, 2011 it was announced that Target Corporation of the United States will purchase the lease agreements of up to 220 Zellers stores for C$1.825 billion.[5] Under the agreement, Zellers will initially sublease the properties, and continue to operate them as Zellers locations until at least early 2012. After the Zellers stores at these locations close, Target will renovate 100 to 150 of them, and reopen them under the Target banner during 2013 and 2014. The remaining acquired locations will be transferred to other retailers; it is speculated that these could include Walmart Canada, Kohl's, and J. C. Penney.[6] Neither the 220 locations to be transferred, nor the 100-150 locations to be converted to Target, have yet been identified.[7]
Target is not purchasing the Zellers chain outright and approximately 50-60 existing locations will be retained by HBC. HBC intends to operate the locations not acquired by Target as part of a smaller Zellers chain operating in "specific communities".[8] However, some media outlets have speculated that the remaining locations could eventually be sold off as well.[7]

I would suggest that Regina will not be one of the "specific communities". Target will only permit Zellers to compete in communities where they do not intend to operate.
