I think Canada House does (the Erickson buildings). The rest of the market buildings look pretty damn good in my opinion. The green one on 1st is growing on me, but I am not a fan of the net-zero seniors building.

They're hoping for a rejection by the UDP for failure to meet "architectural excellence" as required by the Higher Buildings Policy.

Given that it's unlikely that minor tweaks would resolve such a problem, that would force a re-design to get "on-side" with the UDP (if it's off-side in the first place).

Historial precedent has occurred with rejections of both The Melville and Ritz-Carlton/Vancouver's Turn at the UDP for that reason. In each case, the design was overhauled.

Ummmmmm, I don't think that any of our $1,000.00/sqft buildings "look like shit".

I think it's a ridiculous statement, at least one that should be followed by 'IMO'

Everyone's posts are in their personal opinions... Only a few here have an actual profession related to city development.

I still dont really care for it, I still think its a bit too busy, but then again I wasnt a huge fan of Hotel Georgia when it first came out and I've been quite impressed by the built product.

I'm still hoping the UDP will reccomend some changes.

A bit too busy?? honestly, these could be built in surrey. Barring a complete redesign, I hope the project fails.

I also hate renderings that skew the field of view to misrepresent the corner as more dramatic than it really is. especially here where it doesn't even work to their advantage.

If THIS is is what we are really going to get in that choice and important location, then thumbs down to the UDP (and maybe even a Bronx Raspberry, to boot!!) This time NOBODY can convince me that they're "doing their job."

As LEFTCOASTER said, it's too busy - waaay too busy; "cheap" looking, puposelessly assymetrical in a strange way, and that "honeycomb" effect looks almost like a sci-fi movie with giant creepy crawlies living inside.

If it were buried side-by-side on another street somewhere, it might not matter so much, but this is an absolute travesty to such a premier location.

Btw Delirium the link you posted for the Burrard Gateway site is incorrect and should end with .ca not .com

Is this a joke? There is nothing remotely close to being 'excellent' concerning this project's architecture.

Not sure why the COV went all the way to NYC and Toronto to get experts, they have so many one this board.

Anyways there is an open house tonight for anyone that is interested. I'll make a quick visit but can't stay for the whole thing.

Open House:
Date: Thursday April 14, 2011
Time: 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm (presentation at 6:30 pm)
Place: Wosk Centre for Dialogue, 515 West Hastings Street

I'm assume you'll be at the open house to properly voice your concern then...
