Even the street lamps are not the green utilitarian Vancouver style!! So again, please WHERE is that?

Whether one like the International Style or not is wide open to debate. Nevertheless, the buildings - and street in front of it - look FAR more "big city" than Vancouver, anywhere. (It's natural, I suppose; that's Chicago ... this is Vancouver)

Vancouver gets a bad rap for being small town, which when compared to the big boys (London, NYC, Chicago, Tokyo etc) it is, but when compared to many other cities, it stacks up nicely. Vancouver is bigger than most UK city centres and many US ones.

I guess if someone comes from somewhere like London, most places will feel like villages.....

I like the fact that we embrace big city aspects, while still having smaller city qualities and incredible access to the outdoors.

And not sure i see what the fuss is about in those chicago pics? Am i missing something...

I should just note too that I think Jameson House turned out great. I love the exposed concrete.

On a Canadian basis Vancouver is VERY big city... on an international scale it is not comparable sure, but the (majority) of downtown is very much 'big city'.

I got back from Chicago last night.
I have to say that Vancouver despite smaller buildings and less of them is such a nicer downtown. Site lines suck in Chicago.
I was surprised that the John Hancock is much more in the hearts of the Chicago people then the Sears Tower(Willis Tower)
Also of note the Trump Tower is probably the nicest building I have ever seen.

This building, Jameson House, needs a psychiatrist. It has a severe dissociative personality disorder.

One side is gracious, elegant, and curvy. It makes you want to think about moving there.

The back and sides are black, ugly, functional-to-the extreme and look as if the developers skimped on building materials. That, or the architects didn't give a [FWEEEP] about the parts that were not high-profile.

It's a total conundrum. The question is: can it be upgraded or fixed?

those are big cities that feel "very big city" .... because they ARE big cities.

Montreal? Are you kidding me? Other than a small part of the CBD, it feels large but not 'big city'.

Toronto's CBD, Younge, and Water front might be big city, but get east of church, west of spadina, or around bloor and it is pleasantly pleasant.

All of this aside in the context of Jammy house, it has a 'big city' feel to it, very metro, and while Vancouver is not that tall, it has the some of the best canyons around.

Interesting!! My response matched yours almost exactly when I read his compsrisons!! When I go to San Fran, the first thing I notice is the height (and light, bright colours) of the buildings, as well as the extensiveness of downtown. Montreal feels bigger and more sophisticated-looking. And T.O sprawls outwards in big "clumps" of highrises, with suburbia or greenspace in between. As far as "canyons," to me the only real "canyon" in Vancouver is Georgia Street, and it has a way to go yet, too.
