Quick solutions:

Convert interchange into Parclo B4:

"The Parclo B4 interchange superficially appears to be a mirror image of the Parclo A4. However, the B4 design provides freeway-to-arterial ramps without traffic lights, which is undesirable due to a lower capacity arterial being potentially flooded with freeway traffic. Entering the freeway often requires a left-hand turn lane."

Also quick fix involves construction of a climbing lane east to past 248 Street (where the grade levels out).

Hmmm. I'll take a stab at what I would love to see through Metro Vancouver:

Hwy 99: (N/S) (Travel/HOV)
8th: (2+2) Leave as is
16th: (3+3) Build a truck only interchange, given own lane NB, SB 3rd lane exit
24th: (3+3) Add NB on-ramp/SB off-ramp
32nd: (2/1+3/1) Widen the intersection underneath 99, give NB an HOV fly-over ramp, SB HOV exits to 152nd
KGB: (3/1+3/1) Have an WB/SB on-ramp and have it's own lane and act as a climbing lane. NB on-ramp would have it's own lane to give Hwy 99 3 travel + 1 HOV lanes NB, SB would have 3 + 1 lanes already, one exits for KGB, Direct NB/SB HOV only ramps (flyover)
Colebrook Rd: (3/1+3/1) Have an interchange, NB off/on, SB off with fly-over
91: (3/1+3/1) 91 on-ramp from NB would be the farthest right lane on 99. SB would be 5 lanes until 91, farthest right lane would exit which reduces weaving. 91 NB on-ramp onto 99 gets own lane. Direct HOV connections each way to 91/99. Fly-over ramps for a 91 HOV 3rd lane onto AFB. Both directions
104th: (4/1+4/1) Truck only SB exit, NB entrance
Hwy 10: (4/1+4/1) Re-design interchange to have Hwy 10 as 4 laned, proper on/off ramps. Full interchange with direct HOV access for entrance/exit. SB on-ramp given own lane to keep 5 total. NB on-ramp given additional lane
SFPR: (5/1+4/1) 2 NB lanes exit for SFPR, split with high-speed ramps to allow easy access to SFPR, each receive own lane for SFPR to give 6 total. SB same thing. HOV full seperate interchange. On-ramps to 99 given 2 lanes NB and SB, plus an HOV on-ramp NB giving another lane. One SB HOV lane exits
Hwy 17 (5/2+4/2) Fully re-done interchange, NB truck bypass ramps to allow fly-over to by-pass merging, SB also, NB split 500m. before Hwy 17 with 2 right most lanes going over interchange, SB split after River. Rd. NB given 1 full lane from WB 17 and EB 17, HOV full interchange also with an HOV for Ladner bound traffic. Truck By-pass rejoins after merge with 17. NB would have 2 HOV + 5 travel lanes through new bridge instead of tunnel. SB by-pass ramps would rejoin after 17 merge. SB would have 2 HOV + 4 (right merge) after 17
River Rd: (5/2+5/2) Leave as is with right lane exit ro River Rd.
Bridge: (5/2+5/2) Would be massive but gets rid of bottleneck, short river crossing. Double deck bridge, main deck bottom, HOV top.
Steveston: (5/2+5/2) NB 2 lanes exit to a re-done interchange, WB Steveston 4 lanes with fly-over ramps from NB 99. WB has own lane for 4 laning all the way to Riverport. EB/WB Steveston given 1 lane to enter 99 NB. SB 99 farthest 2 lanes exit. EB fly-over ramp. WB on-ramp fly-over onto 99 SB, meets with EB on-ramp, and given 2 lanes onto new bridge. Direct HOV full scale interchange aswell. (Multiple stack interchange)
Blundell: (4/2+5/2) SB off-ramp, NB on-ramp
Westminster Hwy: (4/2+5/2) Full scale interchange inter-connected with Hwy 91. NB Westminster 1 lane exit would have fly-over to travel WB, EB leave as is. Westminster would have a NB 99 on-ramp for both ways, that acts as a c/d for traffic heading to Hwy 91 aswell from 99. SB would have an HOV/Bus only ramp to Westminster. Westminster on-ramp would be given own lane onto 99 SB. C/D system would keep traffic seperated, but give Westminster an opportunity to merge to 91. Merge afterwards for NB onto 99, not given own lane.
91: (3/2+5/2) Full scale interchange except from NB-EB. Each direction has 1 lane exit. Ramps left as is, 91 widened to allow HOV direct ramps for all 4 directions. Shell Rd.@ 91 rebuilt as interchange. All directions gain one lane from on-ramps
Shell: (3/2+5/2) Leave as is, NB on-ramp acts as a weave lane
Cambie: (3/2+5/2) Truck only SB on-ramp given own lane onto Hwy
Bridgeport: (3/2+4/2) Full scale multiple stack interchange. No traffic lights used. NB Weave + 1 lane exit to Bridgeport, 2 lane Tunnel built to head WB on Bridgeport re-joining after #3 road, EB gives Bridgeport own lane. SB 2 lanes exit, has fly-over exits to head either way, loses 2 lane from OSB. Bridgeport given on-ramp from WB straight onto bridge, EB has loop but has own lane onto-bridge, merge with WB traffic. Bridgeport to SB 99 gets 2 lanes. Full scale HOV interchange, HOV gets 2nd lane for tunnel WB. SB same thing, no more Garden City exit.
OSB: (3/1+4/2) Re-built completely.
Marine: (2/1+3/1) 2nd HOV lane SB comes from Marine, Marine to SB 99 gets own lane for bridge. HOV NB gets exit to Marine, than heads up Oak. NB 99 has 1 lane exit to Marine. Loop to WB stays the same. Oak should be re-done so that in the morning 4 lanes head NB, afternoon 4 head SB.
70th: (2/1+2/1) Hwy 99 to stay elevated enough to go over 70th, 70th given on-ramp onto SB bridge and given own lane accross. NB merges in after 70th.

From than on, leave as is, but have no parking 24/7 along Oak to Broadway. Sync. lights so that if travelled at 60 km/h you never miss a light. Sync. them according to direction of volume, and have no left turns between 6am-8pm 24/7. The Hwy would be designed with noise barriers/vegetation, that make the Hwy appealing to the eye also.
This took me a while to think it through, but Hwy 99 is often congested, so this would alleviate that, but still reward HOV/Transit. I know this sounds like an LA Super freeway, but having a Highway like this would keep White Rock/Surrey/Delta/Ladner/Richmond/South Van. moving in rush hour a lot better than now. The one thing I like about LA/Seattle freeways is the way their HOV lanes actually have a better use than just skipping congested traffic. Right now you only get to bypass traffic, but if you want to exit the highway you have to weave accross. If you were an HOV and wanted to head from Hwy 17 to Steveston in the morning rush, without waiting in traffic you'd be almost guaranteed not too, and bypass it all. That being said it wouldn't just be the 99 that would be improved. All of our Highways would need to be improved, like the 91 and 10. I wonder what the price tag for this would be though, my guess is 50 billion lol. I would also go as far to say LRT through the median, with stations at 32nd, KGB, Hwy 10, Hwy 17, Steveston, Westminster, and end at Bridgeport Station.

I've rethought it, I actually now doubt a full-movement interchange will be needed at that intersection since the most it could be used for are movements to/from Highway 1 to the west (particularly rare) or access to the business area. The interchange actually does fine traffic-wise with a single two-lane overpass, it's just the safety issues that concern me. I might even consider swapping out the westernmost flyover/overpass for a directional ramp and/or a loop ramp, since a loop ramp would allow for more non-stop movements to Fort Langley (if you don't take 88th thru Walnut Grove).

Highway 13 is not as often-used but is also a bottleneck; I think in the short term longer acceleration lanes will do it there.

Pennywise604 that's a fine list you have there... might take me awhile to read it, visualize it and reflect on it though
16th: The 192nd St-style ramps seem quite fine to me, but should only be place once the industrial area to the east starts to really set up or the demand won't be enough to extend the 3rd lane to there.
24th: I would rather see a full-movement interchange there; it's hard getting onto 99SB as it is, and King George seems wildly under-capacity for the future. A SPUI might be nice there, but I worry the area under the overpass can support 3 lanes without at least removing shoulders.
32nd: Highway 99NB to 152nd NB and 152nd SB to Highway 99SB could be an extremely useful (full) movement, which is currently lacking. The NB acceleration lane from 32nd has to be lengthened, you're dealing with two lanes merging into one and then merging onto the highway and this apparently causes problems in the morning rush hour.
King George: the HOV ramps may be a good idea, there is a park-and-ride there.
Colebrook: Possibly redundant, Those movements could use Highway 10.
91: This is where a Highway 1/104th-160th style bottleneck would be sufficient, as a majority of the movements use the ramps. 99 W to 91 N to/from movement is used often by trucks going to Highway 10, that can't use Ladner Trunk Road. 99E to 91N to/from movement is natural, as both routes head to the same place, but 91 also has a better over-river route as of present. A new interchange should be constructed here and it should have no loop ramps; due to the nearby ocean that could prove difficult. The NB exit onto 99 should be a double-lane exit (one lane exit only, one lane optional exit). The HOV lanes should continue onto 99 with no direct connections; I'd rather see HOV lanes on the 91 start at around the 91A interchange and follow the east-west connector. It helps separate major HOV traffic movements. Only 3+1 lanes west and east of the interchange (with 2+1 in between, BUT with room for expansion) should work just fine here; 1 exit only + 1 optional exit lane should exit from Highway 99 in both directiona. The ramps should be configured so that 99SB > 91NB flies over the 99NB > 91NB lane, and creates a new lane which exits at Highway 10. This would assist truck movement to Highway 10 E. Considering trucks can't use Ladner Trunk Road, the extra lane merging in from 99SB could prove useful, but only if an extra lane/better merge is added at the 10 SB on-ramp. A 3rd lane should not be added onto 91NB onto the AFB; that 3rd lane currently comes from Nordel WB which is a heavy traffic volume route from Surrey. Otherwise heavy traffic could be caused at the NB merge point, which often features really slow moving cars and/or trucks coming up the bridge.
104th: Completely redundant considering the nearby Ladner Trunk Road, unless you meant NB exit and SB entrance which would work.
Ladner Trunk Road: A full-movement interchange may not be needed due to redundant movements. If anything redundant movements should be avoided as it just adds to the cost. From 99SB to 10 EB, 99NB to 10WB, 10WB to 99NB and 10EB to 99EB should be enough. A similar interchange to Exit 83/Mt. Lehman Road on Highway 1 should be constructed here. The redundant 10WB-99SB and 10EB-99NB movements are... well, redundant, and both have no acceleration lanes currently - which is not a problem, both are unused. 3+1 as always, but provisions for 4+1 or more should be added in case traffic volumes from SFPR warrant it.
SFPR: 3+1 lanes will be fine here for now, and should remain 3+1 throughout or optionally narrow down to 2+1 until Route 17. NB 99 to SB SFPR and the other way around should receive a movement priority; most of this traffic will exit to 91 NB and then 10EB. There should be no HOV ramps at SFPR, it would be unnecessary for now; SFPR is a truck route.
17: SB 99 to SB 17 and the other way around should receive a large movement priority, with 2+1 ramps south to 17.
River Road: As-is is just fine. With a 5/3/5 Bridge layout (explained later), the 5th lane could exit onto River Road.
New George Massey Bridge: North of the 17 interchange there should be a 4/3/4 or 5/3/5 movement, with Lions-Gate-Bridge style 3-lane HOV (or Seattle-style express lanes if you wish) rather than 2 HOV lanes in both directions. Double deck won't be necessary. If a cable stayed bridge is preferred (yet again) the towers can go in between the main & HOV lanes.
Steveston: NB lanes should remain as they are, no exiting lanes here unless the bridge has a 5/3/5 lane layout. North of Steveston Highway 99 should retain a 4+1/4+1 lane layout. One of the HOV lanes bound for Highway 17 should enter/exit here at Steveston, creating 3 HOV lanes that could work in a Lions-Gate style arrangement.
Blundell: Sounds fine but I would rather see those ramps placed more conveniently at No. 5 Road. Perhaps a future provision if not built.
Knight Street Connector: New connector to Knight Street separates movements from Westminster Avenue. Exits the 99 as an exit-only/exit-optional setup. 99 is 3+1 north of there. An HOV exit here would work as well.
Collector/express system: Exits just before Westminster Avenue with an exit-only, exit-optional exit of the 3th lane or perhaps the 5th lane as well. Main 99 Route remains a 2+1 in both directions. Collector/distributor system continues to the Oak Street Bridge. There are no further exits on the 99 express lanes.
Westminster/No. 5 Road: I'd rather see the Blundell ramps placed onto No. 5 to help serve Westminster. A NB 99 to WB Westminster ramp (overhead or loop ramp) could help separate traffic movements into Richmond from 91 and 99NB.
91: Massive. Northbound collector lane remains 2 lanes through this interchange, but there is an exit to 91 EB. A major exit on SB has an exit-only/exit-optional exit to 91 EB with a widened overpass, with one lane remaining on the 99 SB collector lane that merges with the main 99 route immediately after. 91 WB to 99 SB should remain as is without any major changes, as Knight Street will be using a different route so this won't be a major exit anymore. Exit from 91 EB to 99 NB flies over HOV lanes, with one lane veering left to the main 99NB lanes (with no merge, new lane) and one lane going to the collector lanes. The new lane from 91 becomes a new lane on the NB collector while the rightmost collector lane is marked to exit-only at Bridgeport. The EB Alderbridge > NB 99 loop ramp is removed; it is redundant. An HOV lane exit leads to Alderbridge Road to the west. A new ramp from 91 EB to 99 SB is constructed.
On the 91: Exit to Knight Street NB is removed. Travelers from Richmond can use Westminster Highway + a new ramp to Knight instead or Bridgeport Road. NB 99 travelers use the Knight Street connector. This helps resolve the weaving on EB 91. On WB 91, the WB lane entering from Knight Street continues past the 91WB > 99SB ramp and exits as an exit only/exit optional lane to 99NB. Knight SB > 99SB uses new connector rather than extra lane via 91.
Shell: Basic upgrade here. Exit-only/exit-optional from the SB collector lanes. NB entrance flies over/dips under collector lanes but merges onto the collector lanes, on the left side, to avoid weaving. North of here the collector lanes are 4 lanes wide northbound and 3 lanes wide southbound, and the express lanes are 3+1 northbound and 2+1 southbound (with provisions for 3+1 there of course).
Bridgeport: NB, Rightmost collector lane exits-only with the next lane exit-optional. After this exit, the rightmost collector lane ends for a 2-lane collector north of Bridgeport. SB, the one lane coming into the Collector lanes to exit later at Shell comes from Sea Island Way as usual. Existing ramp layout is pretty much kept here without much issue, just needs some longer merge points in areas. NB, one lane from Bridgeport EB merges to create a new lane, for a 3-lane NB collector over a new Oak Street Bridge. collectors are also 3 lanes southbound, with one lane exit-only/exit-optional exiting onto Sea Island Way to Richmond. One lane from SB express lanes exits and becomes a collector lane just before this interchange, creating a short 4-lane collector lane southbound; after the Bridgeport exit, rightmost collector lane ends. HOV ramps are probably a given here, they should lead from 99NB > Bridgeport or Sea Island WB and the other way around.
Cambie: This'll interfere with Shell Road. With the lack of left-turn-lanes at No.4 and lack of Centre lanes, this wouldn't be an ideal route for trucks anyhow.
Oak Street Bridge: Monstrous. 3+1 express, 3 lanes connectors in both directions. 14 lanes, 12 of them actually heading into Vancouver splitting up into the 6-lane each Oak & Granville Streets.
North end of Oak Street Bridge: Collector lane exit NB to Marine Way EB. 3 NB collector lanes split into 2+2 lanes, the leftmost two veering west for Granville and the other 2 staying for Oak; both of those two-lane sections merge into one, new 152nd street style; the loop ramp to Marine WB is removed. The northbound HOV lane becomes a regular lane midway through the bridge. The rightmost of the 4 express lanes exits, and veers over and around on a new overpass to connect to the Arthur Laing Bridge, creating a new link to the airport and an alternative to the Sea Island bridges from Highway 99NB and Highway 91WB (other traffic from Richmond can use the Sea Island bridges). The third lane exits-only/exits-optional onto Oak, a much better through route into Vancouver with more lanes than Granville (considering the outermost lanes are parking/HOV even if they are direct. Two lanes remain, and merge into one; a single lane from the collector lanes is added, and a third lane merges in from the Arthur Laing. This continues on as Granville Street. Marine now takes on it's own route connecting to UBC rather than merging with Granville, to avoid merging complications, passing under the complex; connections to the Marine are made via a few offramps and 70th Street. In the Southbound direction, three lanes are coming from Granville and three lanes are coming from Oak. The lanes from Oak split up so that two lanes continue as express (the Oak express lanes merge to one before entering), two lanes as collector; the lanes from Granville split up in the same way (collector lanes merge into one). The fourth express lane is coming from the Arthur Laing. As I mentioned earlier, this extra lane exits onto the collectors, which later exits onto Highway 91. The leftmost lane becomes HOV midway through the bridge.
70th: To stay elevated over 70th would result in too much land expropriation. All connections should be figured out on the very north end of the bridge with an interchange.

Not bad actually. Kind of looks like the half-SPUI they built at 200th Street and Highway 1 in Langley.

Only one nitpick though: where do the 405 and 407 terminate? =P

The buses could loop around via Ross and 59th or so. Actually I don't even understand how it works currently, you pull into the bus bay under the overpass, then have to weave 3 lanes into one of the two left turn lanes back onto that onramp - which is usually too jam packed to just cut into anyway?

There's a special priority bus signal at that intersection, where all traffic halts while the bus turns around. I guess that's sorta inefficient? (shrug)

I don't have time this week but surely next week i'll try cranking out one of my road connections map... I'm just adding in a LOT of detail this time... rather than just major highways there's also more local streets too. =O But that'll come later.

Nah, that's not the issue; the thing I'm trying to find out is, how the heck do the 405 and 407 go from the rightmost lane (where the bus stops are) all the way into the leftmost lanes again to get back onto that on-ramp!? Not only is that crossing 3 lanes, it probably also means merging into long lineups...

That's why there's the PRIORITY BUS SIGNAL, as Allen_Kuan pointed out. When the 405/407 is ready to go, it creeps forward activating the sensor. When the offramp onto Marine is ready to get its green light, the priority bus signal allows buses to go first for a few seconds to allow the buses onto the left turn lane before allowing general traffic to go.

Oops I guess I didn't explain that too well. xD

Actually... this idea should be more in the Transit Fantasies thread than here... but why not build a new transit interchange at the bottom of Victoria? Many routes just end prematurely in the middle of nowhere to be honest, including 22, 20, 29, 405, and 407. This is probably a legacy of the hub and spoke that Downtown used to be, but we all know that that's weakening towards a multi-hub solution.

UPDATE TO NFPR/CAPE HORN AREA CONCEPTS (Created in CorelDraw):

NFPR - United - Blue Mountain interchange area


Blue Mountain - Brunette - Lougheed intersection/interchange area(note 3-lane configuration WB & EB approaching intersection is 1 lane left, 1 lane straight or left and 1 lane straight - alternating traffic signal phase)

I've also updated Knight Street and added a left turn ramp for the buses, but that one's going to go up later

I like your idea in regards to connecting the #1 with Brunette (via free flow) creating the NFPR. I had an idea similar to that, but i do not like the Lougheed portion of your design, too large and destroys too much of Malardville (i think that is how you spell it). That portion for me is overkill and unnecessary.

If anybody did that plan to Malliardville, they'd be committing political suicide. Ideal in maybe a fantasy context... but I think it'll stay that way unfortunately. = \

That is just the most confusing thing I have ever seen. I know this is the fantasy thread, but can you base it in a bit of reality please? I don't see how this is functional, easy to use, plausible to build, or affordable/cost effective, or improves traffic.

I mean, how do you get to Ikea? Or if you are out shopping, how do you get from Ikea to the Silver City? Can you go from Schoolhouse to #7 WB? Do you have to read a novel before you get to the United/Blue mountain intersection before you know where to go? If I'm coming down Blue Mountain and I want to get onto #1 EB, can I? And it's not clear how to get from EB #7 to WB #1. And I think you need a degree to get from Burnaby over to New West, which is a heavy travel pattern, but the weakest implementation.

As for actually implementing it, that seems hard too. There is no way to get Braid to go over or under the tracks, there is absolutely no room between Brunette and the tracks. If you are thinking of moving the tracks, they are some of the heaviest used tracks in Western Canada, co-used by every single RR company operating in the region. That's also a lot of buildings and properties destroyed in Burnaby around Lougheed highway. And building a lot of these overpasses would result in multiple roads being closed during construction. You would have to close the Lougheed and Brunette intersection for at least a year while you actually build it. I don't see how this can happen.

I don't think you even bothered to look at the design with those comments, actually. In fact I think you just don't like me and something is seriously wrong with you.

Revisions are continuing on this, but the design was made to allow for as much existing movement as possible to be retained in an efficient manner with little redundancy, and so that the designs match what Translink/MOT plans (i.e. Blue Mountain overpass replaces Brunette) and most development can be retained (and isn't Mallardville supposed to be rezoned anyway?). However, it is also downscaleable. The Brunette-Blue Mountain-Lougheed intersection area was designed as a partial intersection to improve the movement and reduce confusion. 3 intersections too close together and not too efficient in operation.... just reminds me of Winnipeg's famous confusion corner, and I do not want it to stay that way.

That said, this design can be downgraded so the Highway 1 EB off-ramp/WB on-ramps meet at Blue Mountain rather than continuing up Brunette (though I was afraid this might wreck business there) and the only intersection there be Blue Mountain/Lougheed (no overpasses or interchanges if that's what you prefer), simpler. I do admit a few movements may not be clear and I should explain those: the narrow grey line crossing Brunette between Bernatchey and Tupper is a mini underpass/overpass, since you would otherwise have to weave with the EB Brunette traffic I decided to add this to link Route 7 EB to IKEA. Movement to IKEA from the east would be facilitated by Schoolhouse St. Movement from the north would be facilitated by the Schoolhouse Street northward extension to Brunette.

Now, to answer your SPECIFIC questions, many of the movements were actually designed with IKEA in mind (i.e. easy access from EB highway 1). Some of the movements are actually quicker. The IKEA > SilverCity Schoolhouse movement you mentioned will actually be a bit faster with the Schoolhouse underpass under Lougheed. I decided to use an extra lane that merges with the Lougheed off-ramp/left turn lanes to keep the traffic signal phasing there a simple two-phase. If you didn't see that, this just proves that you barely had any intent to study my design at all. Schoolhouse to 7 WB could be done in two ways: 1. using King Edward 2. turning right at that road just before the Superstore, and then using the on-ramp to Highway 7 near the gas station (you'd know this if you actually knew this area, I thought you lived near there). The movement to the United/Blue Mountain area will still be much much faster than before. I understand there will be confusion at first when this new design is implemented. But honestly, I'm pretty sure the same kind of confusion existed with the building of other things such as the Highway 91/99 interchange. As with every upgrade (or the same with moving to a new place/town), some studying WOULD be required. DEAL WITH IT. Have you ever been to Toronto? Shh-yeah, in places the roads can be super confusing... but they are also super-effective. Coming down Blue Mountain and then wanting to get on 1 EB is probably one of the more complicated movements at the moment, I am thinking of a way to address that and I think a loop ramp from Blue Mountain SB to Highway 1 EB would be suitable. From EB 7 to WB 1 (a movement that I think a lot of drivers would rarely have to use) you would turn left at the relocated Brunette Avenue, then use the right turn lane and follow it onto Brunette which would merge directly onto Route 1. From Burnaby to New West... [assuming Burnaby = Burquitlam/SFU area] lol wut, did you ever notice that there's another road that goes down there called NORTH ROAD? Oh yeah, what about the proposed Stormont Connector? You could use that too! If you've been paying attention to the discussions here you'll know that the Stormont connector has been planned for a long long time and if the new Patullo (refurbished Patullo?) comes in they will probably build it.

To make things easier, here's a map I made specifically just for you (I know it looks quick and dirty, but I would rather spend around 6 minutes creating this rather than 4 months [so far] working on the entire thing):

Green: Hwy 1 EB -> IKEA, Blue: Hwy 7 EB -> IKEA, Red: Hwy 1/7 WB -> IKEA, turquoise: IKEA -> Silver City, Aqua: Schoolhouse SB -> 7 WB, Purple: Blue Mountain SB > Hwy 1 EB, Yellow: Hwy 7 EB > Hwy 1 WB, alternate routes in dotted lines

The tracks would have to be sunken at Braid for my overpass, I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem since temporary tracks would be a lot narrower and easier than 6 lanes of traffic that they have to redirect in the same way at King Edward while they sink the highway there.

Construction can be held in stages and there's actually some empty area you could use. See that empty grass where that row of houses ends... the heavy Lougheed > Brunette left turn movements/right turn movements could be facilitated there, while other movements would redirect to Blue Mountain and the Brunette (north of Lougheed) redirection along that route would be implemented earlier than the rest. Considering a lot of the upgrades on Route 1 right now are even tougher to implement (i.e. King Edward overpass, 152nd Street area, the majority of the actual planned Cape Horn interchange & area), I'm sure that BC planners would not have much problem figuring out how to make traffic work during construction.

Seriously, this plan just complements to something that we know is going to definitely happen in a short time (i.e. Blue Mountain being the primary north-south connector and getting an overpass over the 1). Whether you like my version of this or not, it's going to happen anyway. So once again, DEAL WITH IT.

Here's my 10 minute take on another place where modifications/upgrades have been long, long overdue for several reasons (key reasons being: capacity/movement, and safety [school nearby, many kids cross])... but will probably never come

Don't live there, but looking at that aerial a few things strike me.
Lots of parking. (and all full)
A gird system in place.
The gird system isn't complete and is broken.

While much more expensive to implement, I think you'd find that completing the gird system will greatly increase the efficiency of the existing roads. The collectors would end up carrying traffic for shorter amounts freeing up capacity, not to mention making life easier for residents.

Its amazing how the parking lots always are full at car dealerships.
