^You mean in West Campus? Yeah, they look suburban. They aren't though, since that area is the densest in Austin. Many blocks of 4 to 8 story residential buildings.

The Business Journal article is calling that West Campus project a "condo tower". It's 167 units, "477 beds" on 1.6 acres. I wonder how high it'll go.

Crescent Resources plans 167-unit student condo tower near The University of Texas

Austin Business Journal
Date: Wednesday, March 2, 2011, 12:32pm CST

Crescent Resources LLC, which emerged from bankruptcy last year, will soon break ground on a student housing complex near The University of Texas in West Campus.

The Circle West Campus project near West 25th and Longview streets will total 167 units with about 477 beds. Crescent said the 1.6-acre property will include a resort-style pool, tanning beds, community study cafe and lounge. Units will range from studios to one-, two- and four-bedroom apartments.

Construction is slated to begin this month with an opening in June 2012. The project is designed to meet Austin Energy Green Building Multifamily requirements. Austin-based Kelly Grossman Architects LLC handled designs, while Rampart Construction is the general contractor. The civil engineer is Bury+Partners Inc. of Austin.

^Judging by how many rooms they plan this could be quite tall, depending of course on the surface area they use. What are the height restrictions there?

Formula 1

The latest drawings of the Formula 1 track show an amphitheater on the west U shaped area with a high tower over event space. Something that had not shown up before. There is also a future go kart track and an extension or separate smaller track for the future. The main grandstand looks bland based of the elevations, maybe a rendering will help make it look better and unique like other countries have.

Old Concordia Campus

Unfortunately, i am unable to make it to TX this spring and have to wait until the middle of summer. Does ANYONE know about anything happening recently on the old Concordia College campus? It used to be called the East Avenue Project......now i think something like University Village......
Please, let me know if you have any recent info. OR even if you have pix, i would appreciate it.

The developers went bankrupt. The office building was completed, but the main tenant - Texas Monthly - is suing the developer for unfulfilled contractual obligations related to the building construction and amenities. Other than the office building nothing was constructed.

^^^ Oh my goodness. CLC, now called Concordia Lutheran TX at their new campus, was my alma mater, along with UT. It was bittersweet to see them raze the entire campus to the ground, but i was comforted by the really awesome mixed use, pedestrian friendly development that was to be put on those 23 acres. i know other bidders at the time included St. David's Hospital Complex and a couple of other small colleges that wanted to expand to that campus, leaving most of the existing buildings. Thank GOD Concordia got their money before the co. went bust. That would have been a disaster for their future vision. SIGH......oh well, i know something will come along there some day. Just sort of bummed that didn't come to fruition.

Hotel on Congress

If anyone was wondering, the proposed new 26 story "point tower" hotel on Congress will be 336 feet tall. I asked the architect during a commission presentation.

Good I am glad about the height of that tower, that will work well for that area.

A cluster of development is taking shape in western downtown that could transform the neighborhood near Seventh and West streets in the coming years.

Great, thanks for asking and letting us know. I had figured from the rendering it would be around 300 feet. I'm surprised I was off by that much.

Yes, the official height I had found from the building's management was 329 feet. However, I was able to measuring the building once with a feature that Live Maps used to have (before they became Bing). The Bank of America Center has an extra bit of height on top of its mechanical penthouse on the eastern edge of it that goes up slightly higher than the rest of the mechanical penthouse roof. The total height I found including that portion was 336 feet. The part below that small portion was 331 feet.

Have a link for these?

And are you sure you weren't seeing the Croation GP track? It is another Tilke design that came out last week that looks a *ton* like the Austin track and it has a go-kart track built in it.

Gigapan from The Austonian. You can zoom WAY in on stuff. It's a cool website. They also have one from the roof of the Chase Tower in Houston and one of Hamilton Pool and others. Anyway, if you just type in Austin, Texas, you'll find all kinds of goodies. There's several pages of images from the hills, too, that show downtown.
