I miss the old (and original) BC Gas logo that ruled the roost back in the day.

interesting that FortisBC has been expanding. I wonder how that'll affect my parent's gas bills... probably not by a lot?

BTW if anybody can contact FortisBC, tell them that their website is failing on me (offline servers?). Way to go for first day customer service. =S

FortisBC site failing for me too.

I really like the name "terasen", over BcGas and FortisBC.

FortisBC is the new name for Terasen. Terasen was acquired from Kinder Morgan by Fortis, a Newfoundland based firm. For some reason, I guess growing a national brand or some nonsense like that, it is being renamed FortisBC.

I was wondering when that would happen, thanks for the heads-up.

Ahh.. too late...

Fortis is a Newfoundland energy company.
FortisBC is the BC subsidiary.
They bought West Kootenay Power a while back and took over Terasen Gas (a year or more ago?).

Any idea what's taking place with the parkade between Steamworks and Waterfront station ? They had people looking the lot over a couple of months ago and now today they fenced off the small building.

Perhaps they're only going to remove the building as I never see it used.

Darn was hoping to get an answer to my above question before burying it.

The old Beach Tower additional tower proposal wasn't well received, we'll see how this one fairs.

Quote:
IBI/HB Architects, on behalf of Beach towers Investments Inc., has applied to rezone 1600 Beach Avenue and 1651 Harwood Street from RM-5A (Multiple Residential) District to Comprehensive Development (CD-1) District to add a total of 137 dwelling units to these sites.

The existing property has over 600 rental apartments in four towers (19 to 21 storeys) on two sites—1600 Beach Avenue and 1651 Harwood Street. The application proposes the following:

* Along Beach Avenue: add a five-storey residential building with two-storey townhouses at grade and three levels of housing above, and a partially submerged one-storey amenity building.
* At the corner of Harwood and Cardero Streets: add an eight-storey residential building.
* Along Harwood Street: add two 3-storey structures, containing 9 townhouses, on either side of the existing Columbus House building.

The proposal would add approximately 105,000 sq. ft. of density, resulting in an increase in floor space ratio (FSR) from 3.42 to 4.33 (noting that the maximum permitted under the current zoning is 2.2 FSR). The applicant has applied under the Short Term Incentives for Rental Housing (STIR) Program and all the residential units are proposed to be market rental.
The West End and STIR...

probably want more parking spaces - that lot is a ticket machine lot now - no need for an attendant so they can squeeze a few more spots out of it with the building - just my guess

Sorry if this has been posted before, but does anyone know what's going up in the narrow lot just west of the Save-on-Meats on Hastings? It's just south across the alleyway from the cheap apartment project on Cordova - there's a crane up and some construction going on.

That is the second half of the Salient Group's Paris Block development. The first half was a restoration of the old building and the installation of a new elevator core. The second half of the project, which was put on hold a couple of years ago due to market conditions, will be a modern condo development and it will be linked into the first phase of the building and share its elevator core. If you look on the east side of the heritage building of the Paris Block you will notice rebar sticking out of the new floor slabs they poured around the new elevator core. They plan to just paste the new building right onto the old and then take down the knock out panels and connect the two buildings.

They've started work on the Roundhouse Plaza and have already moved the trestle into it's new position. It now becomes a barrier to passing straight through. If only they would level out the cobblestones to make it easier to walk on. However I am looking forward to the retractable tent that'll be placed over it.

I'm sorry I think this is bogus.

Sure the existing optical building on the corner isn't the greatest heritage quality, but I'd take it over the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 they're putting in its place.

For such a prominent corner, why isn't something more daring being put in there? This will be a mirror image of boringness to the FutureShop/Winners complex cross-corner.

Lost opportunity if you ask me.

replacing a 3 storey building with a 5 storey building seems so not worth it, especially considering the gigantic mass of the Sears building across the street.

the foot traffic is what worries me the most here, this design doesn't look like it's going to help,
