My boss is looking at buying a home in Habour Landing, so she was chatting with one of the builders last weekend and asked about the collapsing basement thing. He said "Yeah, it was an issue, so all the new starts in this area are being built on piles just like the buildings downtown." Then the basement is being poured on top of the piles I guess.

Good to hear they're accepting the problem and taking the necessary steps to prevent future problems.

DanOmyte Which builder did your boss talk to? I've talked to more than one builder and not one said there were any problems. I want someone to take me to this basement that has supposedly collasped. No seems to be able to give me the adddress of where this has occurred. Show me the goods!! Your boss should get the hand-out at the Crawford Showhome to ease her concerns.

Went to the Normanview last weekend, went shopping at the newly renovated presidents choice. Has it always been presidents choice, can't remember, it has been so many years since I was last there. The last time I was there, the store looked horrible. It looked like it was going to be closed any day but now after the renovations, it may be the best looking grocery store in the city. Thats just my opinion, you should go an see yourself. The store is a little bit small but it looked fairly well stocked. They only real problem I had with the store is tha their still using the old mall entrance. Get rid of it and have an entrance on the front wall. Even tho I say that, I still don't know if I like the fact that they converted that mall and the Sherwood from malls to strips malls. All and all, it is much better now.

REGINA — A $100-million hotel-and-condo project, launched last summer by a local developer, has received a much-needed boost from an out-of-province company.

Westgate Developments Ltd. of Regina has joined forces with BrightStar Corp. of Toronto to get the stalled project at Albert Street and Victoria Avenue— touted as the tallest building in the province — back on track.

"As the project has gotten bigger, the project (developer) has identified some additional needs for further support, both from a financial and a resources perspective,'' said Greg Black, senior vice-president of BrightStar.

Historical article

Here's some of what people had to go through as they tried to make Regina better in years past:

From the September 1st, 1983 Leader-Post:

Sod-turning ceremonies held for proposed twin-tower plaza

Quote:
Victoria Plaza -- originally planned as an $80-million, 22-storey 500,000 square-foot complex -- has been scaled down to meet the "requirements of the tenants," said David White, Dover Park's project manager.

Victoria Plaza had been rumored to have been made smaller because developers were having difficulty leasing its space.

...

Thursday's sod breaking has followed three years of controversy, dating back to when the project was first proposed.

...

The originally-proposed 22-storey height was called "too awesome for the location" by sources close to the city. A 22-storey structure would result in "shadows and wind conditions at street level increasing two or three times."

The sloping southern faces of the towers and their blue-green tinted glass were called aesthetically unpleasing by opponents of the project.

Talked to a source of mine in SGI.

The structural problems are serious and will be costly. They are seriously looking at demolishing and building anew. A large factor it isn't being done right now is that the economy is booming and the government doesn't want to "steal" resources and workers away from the private sector.

Its a political battle, boys.

Great find. It is amazing that there. was a story about the new tower to be built on 11th and Hamilton (now Conexus Plaza) on the same page.

I would worry that they would demo it and try to build a shorter tower made of concrete/stucco instead a new tallest gold glass 110m plus tower.

That's not the complete truth, not calling you a liar but I would say your source is out of the loop.

It would seem a bit much to demolish a whole building and start from scratch? No? This isn't a house lol. I don't even think SGI could "afford" to even do this. What crown wouldn't not be chastised for doing this, the public would demand heads to roll.

I can already picture the. Satire cartoons showing employees burning a huge mounting of paper because the ordered the wrong size/type.... "Darn A4".
