I know (based on the drawing) that it likely isn't a downtown project, but I can think of a few places downtown where that project would look AWESOME (actually it would look great on either side of the harbour).

Has anyone heard the rumour that RIM may be doing a major expansion?

That Dartmouth building looks great, i counted 27 floors including what looks like some sort of penthouse, but this is impressive i hope it gets built.

Yeah, it could be Horizon Court, although that would be a big step up from the others.

Something else to keep in mind is that backgrounds in preliminary renderings often do not resemble the development site.

if you look at his recent projects he is noticeably starting to use that almost "cedar strip" looking cladding alot, as well as some copper. The wood almost looks like the stuff they used on the port authority building at Peir 21, which I really like on it.

I agree that (unfortunately) the high rise is like at Horizon, since that is the only place where I can conceive if a Tower 3 in Dartmouth?!?!

It kinda looks like ground floor retail and i dont think that would be at horizon even though it is close to mic mac i still dont see that

if you look really closely it kinda looks like theres umbrellas as if there would be a restaurant

It is just a rendering and with the 2 other towers plus the low rise building there should be enough population to support a coffee shop below. If it is Horizon 3 I could see how the outer curve could overlook the lakes and the lower retail could face the 118

This HAS to be built. This would be so much easier to stare at heading up or down the 118.

It's like a residential version of International Place. This is exactly what Dartmouth needs.

That has always been an option for them. Additionally i know there is plans in final phases for the West Bedford office park. There is at least two office buildings being proposed, more technology type office buildings.

Looks really sharp.
Allnovascotia ran an article saying that this could be built in 2012 and it will be condos. They just have to wait for the lease on Needs to run out. I get the feeling they are reading this forum. This and the Horizon Court III news has got me wondering....

I had the exact same thought this morning...
seems like an odd coincidence that we would start talking about these two projects (which presumably have been on his site for a while) and then out of the blue they would both be reported together.

Allnovascotia had an article tonight about an as-of-right development on the empty lot next to the MacDonald Building on Gottingen Street (by the Oxfam sign):

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s...2Vy3vAHxaKoJ7PCkw&cbp=12,136.88,,0,-4.53

They're considering condos or apartments -- hopefully they'll go with apartments.

It's great to see this area continue to improve. As density increases I think we'll see a huge change along Gottingen.

You mean the lot where the Theatre Lofts sales centre currently stands?

Not sure since I'm rarely in town these days, but it is the lot across the street from the actual Theatre Lofts site.

Why would you like to see apartments there, personally I find that there is not enough regulation on apartments in this city and after 30 years or so nothing is done to the building. My girlfriend is paying 900 a month for a 🞵🞵🞵🞵 apartment at quinpool court, the electrical has never been updated they are still using fuses. This stuff should be regulated and I would rather see condos over apartments any day.

Developer interested in Halifax community centre land

The future of the Rockingham Community Centre is uncertain. The future of the Rockingham Community Centre is uncertain. (Google)

Users of the Rockingham Community Centre have been told the land the facility sits on may be developed.

Halifax Regional Municipality and the Rockingham Community Centre Association met on Monday.

HRM told the association that they'd been approached by a developer interested in the Bedford Highway site, but were vague on details.

Spokesperson Kathleen Cameron said the proposal would go before council in April.

"It's going to be an in-camera report for council and it's an opportunity that was not solicited, but it came forward and because it is an aging facility it is an opportunity to see what the opportunity might offer," said Cameron.

The 55-year-old facility is managed and operated by a community volunteer board.

It was originally constructed in 1956 as a fire station for Rockingham and surrounding areas. In 1986, it was converted to a community space.

It currently hosts about 25 kids daily for after school recreational programs, in addition to fitness classes and rental groups.

The British Isles Club of Nova Scotia has been using the centre one Sunday a month for most of the last 20 years.

"I don't know of another facility quite like that one which we can use and know that it's set aside for our use on a monthly basis, and there's nothing I'm aware of that is owned by HRM in this area that would be suitable, so quite frankly, I don't know where we'll go," said Don Fitzgerald, who is with the club.

It isn't the first time the facility's future has been in question.

In 2005, area councillor Debbie Hum asked for public input on the centre, citing high operating costs and costly improvements needed for the aging building.

Buyers back for Bedford condos
Developer: Markets now allow for home purchases

And in the "next month or so," MacLean said he’s planning to hold public consultations about developing the Cunard Block, just south of Southwest Properties’ Bishops Landing project.

"It’s going to be a spot likely where there will be many living opportunities," he said, noting Halifax’s Lydon Lynch Architects has been working on conceptual designs for the property.

Waterfront Development just issued a request for proposals for conceptual design of the public spaces in the Cable Wharf area, now home to a parking lot and nearby NovaScotian Crystal Ltd.

"The plan is that parking lot will disappear," MacLean said. "And that’s a great plaza space right at the heart of the downtown and the waterfront."

The Halifax waterfront glassworks will "not necessarily" have to move, he said.

"NovaScotian Crystal is a fantastic business so, really, what we’re looking at (are) the spaces in and around that building."
