I wonder what the other storefront tenants will be. The entire top floor will be Forever 21 plus the larger main level space as well, wow. On closer inspection, it seems that the Aldo storefront will remain as is.

I like how it modernizes and brings greater cohesion to that block.

Kiehls and Aldo are staying there - Kiehls is moving where el kartel was or currently is - it is moving granville street

I was downtown for a little while yesterday and I had my camera with me. Here are some downtown projects under construction, recently completed, or sites where it is glaringly obvious that projects will be coming on stream in the years ahead.

The Beasley turned out to be taller than I had originally expected. It looks good.

The retail ground level with commercial office floors above and then set back residential floors on top make for a nicely put together podium, in my opinion.
I like this combination and I really wish that this were the programmatic norm for new downtown towers instead of the exception.
Level at Seymour and Nelson has this same design and I think it looks great too (foreshadowing).

I think it was only 32 storeys (300 ft) approved at rezoning (193 units). Has it changed? I don't think it's gone to DPB yet... Here's a render:

The National Street supportive housing building is the first of the 14 Sites to be complete and occupied.

A very nice heritage restoration in Chinatown on Main at East Georgia. The cafe on the left is called Brixton and it looks very inviting.

The Pender and Abbott supportive housing building is one of the 14 Sites and is nearly complete. In my opinion they went overboard on materials on this one and it loses some cohesion because of it.

I think the heritage restoration at Main & East Georgia is the heritage part of the "Ginger" project next door.

Technically south of Helmcken it is no longer the entertainment district. But yes, they are. There are a number residential buildings from Helmcken to the Granville bridgehead.

In other (disappointing) news, James Schouw's Artimesia project is dead. Or at least mostly dead. Site is being disposed of by court ordered sale.

^ What happened there? I know Grace probably wasn't quite as positive as he would have liked given the delays, but didn't he also just recently launch another new project?!

And wasn't Artimesia like 65% sold?

While I'm never glad to see a project founder, let alone fail, I do not feel that the loss of Artemesia is going to be mourned. It was much, much too low a building for its site and location downtown and the lack of any retail at grade was unconscionable. I appreciate that it was supposed to be an elegant mid-rise building comparable in scale to the first phase of Grace but in my opinion the location was all wrong. Hopefully the buyer of the site will bring a tower to market, and perhaps if there is a viewcone restriction a stubby tower like Alto at Davie and Howe would suffice.
