Futuristic tower indeed, I can't believe I haven't seen this before.

My take on the city classification, in case it's still up for debate:
It should definitely remain classified as a "Wuxi" building, as it IS within the boundaries of the prefecture-level city of Wuxi (prefectures are the jurisdictions below province). It is, of course, located about 30km outside of the CBD of Wuxi. Prefectures in China are further divided into districts, which in some cases have zero relevance outside of administration. For example, the core of Wuxi is technically Chong'an district, but no one refers to it as such. This building is located either in Huishan district or the district-level city of Jiangyin (it's too close to the border to tell). The important thing to note is that prefecture-level city boundaries in China extend much further than they would in North America, but it makes for an easily classifiable hierarchy of cities.

You can see it that way... but I dont see it as an ornament. To me, it's more like a symbol, a feature that makes it look distinctive, even though it is not in harmony to the rest of the structure.

The fact that half of the (negative) comments here are about the sphere proves that it works !

I find this tower fascinating. The residents will have outdoor areas to go without really going outdoors. Kinda cool in a weird "Blade Runner" way.

yes indeed it might very well become the common future way to build many skyscrapers. That we are looking at here if it works out well on the long term with this Supertall

I think you mean an Arcology. It does seem pretty cliche futuristic and monumental in the true sense of the word. So what is inside the giant sphere on top?

Arcology. I thought the same thing also. It's really badass in concept but it just looks so ugly. Especially with that green facade.

Well I think the tower itself is pretty nice. I don't care about the sphere.... the tower would be better without it.

but this is so sci-fi.... a skyscraper for farmers to live in, surrounded by farms (if thats what it is actually for)... and has those large outdoor platforms in the center.

It's because this is in Zhejiang Province. Actually, compared to most other provinces in the country, standard of living (income, public services, etc) are all very high. They've been making great strides to allow for easy transition for rural citizens into the cities but now they seem to be going straight to the "wound." It may seem like "nowhere" because for most North Americans, and maybe Europeans too, you would only see farms in the middle of nowhere. But I've been living in Shanghai now for going on half a year and when i take the subway 1 hour from my apartment to visit my friend's college, it's all mostly farmland and considered "rural" even though there's dozens of car factories, the formula 1 raceway, and a HELL of a lot of people. But it is mostly farmland with random outcroppings of apartment blocks here and there. This IS China after all. It's in no way, shape, or form finished developing.

you still have to remember that this is the eastern world, not the western world. it doesn't need to look like the western world to be "developed" (case point proved here)

I absolutely love this building. It looks like a giant Tesla Coil. I wonder if the Wuxi farmers are experimenting with wireless electricity transmission like Nikola Tesla did a century ago?

This whole area, for thousands of square miles around Shanghai-Hangzhou, and for tens of millions of people is considered rural.

Some of the single family homes and villas provided free from the exorbitantly rich council - but they are still farmers, and this is still countryside- check out the tilled fields and lack of roads:

So this is how china's wealthly live like, LOL. And they're forced to stay there.
