These are some of the stores that many people from our province travel to Calgary or Edmonton to shop at. Which is pure loss for our economy.

This is not the fault of the malls. If any of the above retailers were at all interested in moving into the Cornwall, I guarantee they would be in the Cornwall. Cornwall has no issues with ending leases of a low-lease store to make room for a more trendy shop.

Eaton Centre and Yorkdale Mall in Toronto are both currently or are about to renovate/expand. Great that the Southland Mall is finally on the ball with that idea. Not to sure how it is coming? Anyone have any pics of that development?

I was trying to find this quote from someone on here saying that some of the surface lots downtown are owned/reserved by the government. To whoever said this, do you happen to know which ones? I was just thinking about some of the parking lots and one that always amazes me that it sits empty is on Vic and hamilton. An incredibly prime location. Could this be one?

If you're ever at Midtown, one of the corridors actually has a display of old photos, showing downtown Saskatoon before the mall was built, and after... it gives you an idea of what it looked like pre-expansion. (I think the two department stores, Sears and Eaton's at the time, were two stories from the get-go.)

Found this very interesting link online. Its a report on all available office space in Regina. We have 2.4 million square feet of Class A office space and over 6 million square feet of total office space in Regina.

That means that the Mosaic Tower will make up 8% of all class A office space in Regina and 15.6% of all competitive class A office space in Regina. Holy ****!

On a related note, even if the Mosaic Tower sits empty we'll have a vacancy rate of 14% (compared to 0.6% now) so we'd still be about the national average for vacancy rates.

Fun stuff! We need more class A towers!

Edit: Its good to see the vast majority of our office space downtown. 92.2% of class A competitive is downtown, 92.0% of class A total is downtown, and 89.7% of all competitive office space is downtown. Keep it up Regina!

...and Mosaic is basically fully leased so there should be very little movement in vacancy rates, although there will no doubt be some tenants moving from other buildings. Plus there is still a lot of pent up demand from tenants waiting for space to open up so they can expand.

K + S (Germany) have completed their takeover of Potash One and they are ready, willing and able (financially) to go ahead with the Legacy solution mine project west of Bethune. Maybe they will need a Canadian HQ in Regina. If they were to lease space in Tower II, we would have Vale (Tower I), K+S and Mosaic all in a row and we could change the name of 12th Ave to Potash Ave!

There's no open office space in either Hill Tower. I wouldn't be surprised if K + S builds their own tower. Mosaic couldn't find enough office space and they're roughly the same size as K + S.

On a related note, Vale must feel pretty cramped in Hill Tower I. Maybe they need to build a tower too...

Imagine if in five years we have 3 towers for potash giants. A man can dream...

Vale is years and years away from producing potash though, from what I understand. Their territory is the Pilot Butte/Balgonie area, right?

Great suggestion! I recommend it to anyone who's in the mall to check out those old photos. I wonder if they can be found online anywhere.

I wouldn't be surprised to see 11th and 12th go back to one way streets. I think that was one very bold move that didn't pan out the way they wanted to. I'm sure there are a fair amount of complaints regarding these streets. I don't work downtown and I don't make too many trips down there, but I absolutely hate it myself, so I can't imagine what the people think that have to drive down there on a busy work day.

Wouldn't that make it difficult, if not impossible, to close 12th Avenue for events?

What a mess. Hopefully this isn't a knee-jerk lynching. I know the 2-way thing has been highly publicized but I think the greater issue should be the prolonged closure of 12th. When that reopens I think traffic will flow much more quickly.

The two-way street conversion has been completely overblown. It maybe takes an additional two minutes to get through downtown and the only area that's slowed down is the stretch in front of the Cornwall.

Downtown isn't an area where you should be able to race through in your vehicle. Slow down, look around, relax.

I agree. Two ways won't have really been tested until 12th avenue is back open. You can't pass judgement on the whole thing when the street capacity is reduced as much as it is. Besides which if you've noticed how they have narrowed 12th avenue at each end of the city square project you'll see that traffic will not move as quickly as it once did.
