Montreal est en feu depuis quelques semaines, c'est merveilleux à voir. Les projets ne sont pas juste plus hauts, ils sont également de qualité.

L'Île des Soeurs va commencer à avoir un intéressant skyline avec ces 4 tours de 26-31 étages de plus.

La première tour de Symphonia (26 étages) sera en construction dès ce printemps. Evolo est déjà en chantier.

Quite the cluster on Nun's Island. It is great to see so much construction in Montreal, at a time when most American cities are seeing very little. Usually Montreal is reeling after a recession; with most storefronts owned by a Monsieur A. Louer.

I rather like the design of Symphonia. Le Calmar is right, it will make for quite a cluster on nun's island... too bad the transit connectivity is so poor there.
I think parts of griffintown closest to the Bonaventure and a few points directly east of downtown are becoming ripe for this kind of high rise development though. If/when that happens, I think it really has the potential to transform urban living in Montreal, making it appealing to those who seek views and newer buildings with lots of amenities (gym, pool etc).

I'm here! New to Montreal, just moved from Halifax in January.
Saw this article in the Gazette yesterday.

According to Emporis, 1000 de la Gauchetière has "approximately 20,000 square feet of leasable space" per floor. So If the floor plates were the same size, it would be ten floors. However, I think 1000 de la Gauchetière has a somewhat larger floorplate than is typical in Montreal, so this new building may be taller.

Alcan will be the prime tenant not the only tenant.So if Alcan leases 50%, we could looking at a building of at lease 20 floors.

Des condos en construction ravagés par un incendie

MONTRÉAL – Un immeuble de condos en construction a été ravagé par un incendie, mercredi matin, au coin des rues Lajeunesse et Chabanel, à Montréal.
Selon Jean Leblanc, chef aux opérations pour les pompiers de Montréal, l’incendie, qui a nécessité trois alertes et la contribution d’une soixantaine de pompiers, a débuté vers 3 h du matin dans le bâtiment de l’arrondissement Ahuntsic-Cartierville.

D’origine inconnue pour l’instant, le brasier était d’une telle intensité que la structure a été déclarée perte totale. Pire encore, le feu s’est propagé à un immeuble voisin.

«Les flammes ont atteint le toit d’un immeuble résidentiel de deux étages, situé à l’arrière du premier bâtiment, a déclaré M. Leblanc. Une dizaine de personnes ont dû être évacuées.»

Près d’une heure après le début des événements, les deux incendies avaient été maîtrisés par les pompiers.
