Halifax regional council will spend $100,000 on a consultant's report for a stadium.
Council approved the money for the study in a Tuesday vote.
An outdoor venue with the ability to seat at least 20,000 is a must if Halifax is to succeed in its bid to host games for the 2015 women’s World Cup soccer tournament.
“Council has thrown its support to this bid and to the serious consideration of a stadium,” Mayor Peter Kelly said in a news release. “We will do our best to determine what opportunities a stadium holds for our community and at what cost.”
The winning bid is expected to be announced in March. If successful, the Canadian Soccer Association will be seeking a minimum of six cities to host games.
