I know Coquitlam is often over shadowed by its larger suburban brothers Burnaby, Richmond and Surrey but there is a lot of activity occurring in downtown Coquitlam right now. I hope to get some pics this week of it.
There are currently 4 towers cranes at work in the heart of the city in a 1 block area. There are a few other smaller cranes at work in other areas near the downtown core.
Again, this why I feel the Evergreen Line should be built prior to any Surrey extension. On the mere anticipation of a rapid transit line downtown Coquitlam has been able to transform itself and this transformation looks to still be in high gear.
Last I had heard this project had been postponed due to lack of federal funding. But it now looks like it will be proceeding, probably due to the feds having a sizable amount of money already accounted for in previous budgets but unspent. Although the location is still listed as undecided it isn't much of a secret that it will be on federal land located on Sea Island where it will have immediate access to YVR and be easily reachable for their employees via the Canada Line. Don't get too eager about what will take over the current location though as it'll be years away.

Certainly lots of bidders competing on this project. Also interesting that the project has grown from the original 500K sqft up to 700K sqft and now reduced slightly to 660K sqft.
It's been one of the biggest drawbacks of their current site having things over multiple floors really slows things down and causes problems for them. Apparently the old large elevator is constantly breaking down as well and parts have to be machined as they don't make them anymore, leading to significant delays.
I have just flown into YVR and I noticed from the Canada Line that the River Rock is a couple of floors into construction of the vertical addition of new hotel space above the park and ride parkade.

I don't know what you have against Coquitlam, I personally like it far or than Surrey.
Maybe it comes from living in Maple Ridge much of my life but Coquitlam Centre was always the mall to go to (second best in the metro for selection after Metrotown IMO) and in the summer Coquitlam has some of the best spots in Metro Vancouver (Buntzen Lake, Pine Beach and Belcarra Park).
Not to mention the day to day stuff such as Douglas College or sports tournaments at Town Centre park.

i live in coquitlam - I have nothing against it - its a commuter suburb
all the spots to go are not going to be reachable by skytrain anyway you have to catch a bus from lougheed mall to get to them
why come all the way out to coquitlam centre? when it has all the same even less shops than other convenient malls
Wow... really? That would be impressive. It seems unfortunate that the cities are not developing all of the land around SkyTrain stations to their full potential as transit-oriented developments. =O
Who knows maybe when the fraserlands nears completion and if they build some lrt down marine to new west or 22nd those proposal might happen?
Or maybe new west is waiting to see how plaza 88 finnishes.
I would say New West and Burnaby have been the best at building around their stations so far. New West is working on Sapperton right now and they are building probably one of the most innovative developments around any skytrain station so far around New West station, and exiting Columbia always feels like a mini New York setting to me!
River Rock Hotel vertical addition photo update | February 9th 2011
As expected it is a long slab hotel, much like the airport Fairmont. I assume that similar acoustic standards apply to developments this close to the airport. I would not be surprised if this part of the hotel was envisioned to serve more as an airport hotel than a distinct part of the hotel/casino. Taken by SFUVancouver, February 9th, 2011.

I would be seriously in favour of that design of the Queensborough interchange over the current one. Combined with the other safety enhancements i.e. central barrier & widened roadways, not only would it fullfill the need to keep traffic moving eastbound, it'd make sure traffic moves westbound as well.
