The Saskatoon cma is just the burgundy area, if you read the legend.

Forty people? Gee, give the rest of us a chance!

As Stormer pointed out, our CMA is only the burgundy area. It's not 3 times the size of Regina's... It's probably quite similar.

Ok, I'm unaware of the actual sizes, but from the looks of it, they seem similar.

Would you please back up your facts?

BTW, you're not supposed to copy and paste whole articles, as you've been informed several times before.

Umm... You're comparing city population density vs. metro area...

Let's let StatsCan settle this debate:

Saskatoon's CMA is 5,206.70 sqkm
Regina's CMA is 3,408.26 sqkm

So Saskatoon's CMA is not 3 times the area of Regina's - it's about 1.5x larger.

BUT, it's clear that Saskatoon's CMA has more rural areas in it -- their population density is 44.9 people per sqkm, Regina's is 57.2 people per sqkm.

You guys are taking this CMA thing way out of context. Even if Saskatoon's CMA is larger, the fact that it is larger in area is not the reason its population is larger.

If you take Saskatoon, the RM of Corman Park (which surrounds the city for about 15 minutes in each direction) and the major communities that are within Corman Park (which includes Warman, Martensville, Langham, Osler and Dalmeny, each of which are 10 minutes or less from the city) you still come away with a population of just under 243,000 using 2010 estimates. The RM of Corman Park is FAR smaller than the Regina CMA, and I assure you the communities outside of this area did not experience the same outstanding rate of growth Saskatoon and it's adjacent communities did in the past year.

Saskatoon itself is bigger than the entire Regina CMA at around 224,000.

The fact of the matter is that Saskatoon is growing at a faster rate than Regina. Regina is doing well and so is Saskatoon - it's not a Stats Canada conspiracy.

Jimmy James is bang on. The rate of Saskatoon's growth (both the city proper and CMA) has been outpacing Regina's rate of growth (the city proper and CMA) FOR DECADES. This is hardly a new trend. Take a look and compare each city's population (growth rate) stats going back to the 1950s. The stats don't lie. We can argue until the cows come home why Saskatoon's growth rate has surpassed Regina's for that many years, but what you can't dispute is that IT IS HAPPENING. It's certainly a trend I wouldn't bet against.

Regina's rate of growth of sour grapes is, however, obviously well intact.

If memory serves me correct, more than 50% of Moose Jaw residents must commute to Regina for employment before the Jaw loses its independence. Not sure what the figures are currently. I'd ball park 25-35%.

Who cares, both cites are prospering and growing at an incredible rate, which is nothing but positive news for the province. A strong Saskatoon is good for Regina, just like the opposite. Why can't we be proud of both and call them our own?

what these boys are saying is correct about Saskatoon but I think in the future growth just with all the development going on here Regina I can see us picking up in growth maybe one day taking over we have all the basic to do that GTH potash and we are also real close to all the oil development all this equal jobs I think someone did put up article in here showing that the Regina job market was out pacing Saskatoon from what i read we gain 7000 jobs and they lost jobs not actually sure on the exact number on it just going off by memory am very sure some on here must have seen that article now i am not saying that Saskatoon going down hill but the number are showing that Regina is starting to flex it muscle it going to take time for us put up some of the number saskatoon doing but we are starting see people are choosing regina to do business in ie mosaic GTH co-op upgrade plus we ready have a good foundation like telecommunications industry like sasktel and access evraz and the list goes on. it take time we are not going to put up number like they do over night but a shift is happening boys mark my words I know are Saskatoon brothas don't like hear that but the evidence is all around us with current and future development. and with that GOOD NIGHT GIRLS LOL
