I like the restaurant connected to melville.

It is def an interesting spot for an apple store, considering Alberni is quickly becoming a high end st.

Sponge, I think it's the end down towards the library.
(someone is BOUND to correct me if I'm wrong, so you'll get the precise answer soon enough)!!

It often refers to LOWER numbers, in which case it would be down towards the Library, and/or the less chic end of it, also away from Denman, and down towards the VPL. But who knows? The Joker knows! hohohoho heeheehee-hahahahaaa

Officedweller, yes I even started a thread for the project, I'm going to try and be more proactive and start threads up as soon as the projects are announced. If they don't go anywhere, no loss the thread can be changed to canceled easily enough.

Regarding the Apple store, I didn't mean to add any fire to the rumour mill, just releasing the info about the expansion of Royal Centre, I agree that the location isn't ideal, the format though is pretty close.

Now on that note, if Apple were to open a flagship store, the perfect location is coming. The SW Corner of Granville and Robson. The design is also ~Applish if that's a word. Here are the details. Charlies Cds facade will be saved no need to worry.

No rezoning needed as approval is conditional, meaning this project could start quickly depending on existing leases which are probably month to month.

i think its the perfect location for such a store - from the stores i have visited they are just off the beaten path since people will go out of their way to go to the store

1000's of people walk that stretch from burrard station to robson and beyond, 1000's of people work in the bentall buildings which would be connected to this expansion - you can't get a more prime spot than that

granville and robson is good for the entertainment heart but not the business or retail heart imo

I think georgia will really finally come of age this next decade and we will see more high end move in, burberry, escada are just the start

The Granville site is also interesting, just across the street from Futureshop, its a major intersection.

But I also liked the bentall location, simply because the area is surely going to be more retail frioendly with alberni, and possible retail added to the Turn and the oxford/amacon site on melville.

Great, thanks.
I checked on the 2 pages of threads for that one and the 6th Ave. project but didn't see them - thought they may have been bumped off.

Glad they're retaining the old CIBC facade (Charlie's).
Would have been nice to see something a bit more "organic" on the corner. The over-sized retail bays have been done to death.

Anyone read the "Design Rationale"?
Do they even proofread those things?
It talks about a two-storey retail podium, then a three-storey retail podium and even a thirteen-storey podium.
It also says the heritage building is to the north.

No mention of a podium rooftop restaurant....

OD, the Commercial Electronic site is listed in the downtown section under The Harwood which is the projects current name, and you're correct there isn't one for the W 6th project yet, if anyone wishes to create it they are more then welcome, otherwise I'll try to get to it later this week. I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the interest in it.

Lower Robson is down the hill, in the direction of Denman.

No, my friend is not the joker. He has a connection to the architectural firm involved with the project. His connection gave him vague information due to the confidential nature of the project.

another apple store would be cool. burrard and georgia > granville/robson@charlies - you would get a lot of browsers, but fewer buyers of higher end stuff compared to the captive business market at burrard.

off the top of my head the SE corner of georgia and thurlow provides a lot of visibility to traffic on georgia and it is vacant, but small for an apple store..

and at least the HP store won't be as lonely...

There is no restriction regarding proximity to the existing PC store. They want to do a flagship streetfront store. Even if it is within a block or two of PC (which is doubtful anyway), they wouldn't close the PC store.
