Why has Two WTC another kind of cranes (like BofA Tower, those red-white cranes) and the cranes they use at One and Four WTC as well as the memorial (the white cranes with yellow tip)?

Different contractor -> different cranes.

Thanks, that is true. That means, that those cranes are the ones for Tower 3 as well, because Tishman is responsible for the other projects in mentioned in my previous post.

Just the goofy trading floor podium, right?

Either way, I usually dislike Fox News but they have been on the ball with their WTC coverage. Or, I should say, at least they cover it!

Correction: Tower 3 Steel erection has not begun if I am not mistaken. Any feedback?

Thanks

There are two main reasons, one, Lomma/NY Crane was removed from the list of Port Authority approved sub-contractors and Lomma has Favco cranes. (If you look at pics from about 6 months ago the cranes on T1 still said New York Crane on the side, now they say DCM/Federated.)

Two, this building is being erected by Cornell, not DCM. Cornell favors FMC/ Linkbelt products.

Tishman is the Construction Manager, the steel contractor determines what cranes they are going to use.

Right.

I watch Fox News so I can understand what Jon Stewart is talking about.

It has not, and hasn't obviously for tower 5.

Thumbs down

Thanks

Is the East Bathtub surrounded by the existing slurry walls from the original WTC or has a new one been fitted in?
Also, is the foundation for Tower 2 being prepared assuming that it will be built to the top and not just street level?

They're building tower 2. The only question is whether or not they'll stop at street level.

What you see here is the foundation for a 1,358' skyscraper.

The east bathtub is new. The original WTC only had a bathtub west of Greenwich. The east side was only low-rise buildings.

Yeah, the eastside of the bathtub is new, and one of the reasons Silverstein's towers were pushed so far behind. The Port Authority waited a few years after the site plan was selected to begin work on that. It was built pretty much the same as the original, only this time we got to witness it (assuming most of us didn't see the original get built).

They're doing everything now beause they know the tower will be built as planned, it's just a question of when. Even with that uncertainty, they have to do it now, otherwise they would have to go back in, defeating all of the progress they are now making.

Oh right, right. The trading floors.

Question. Tower 4 wasn't built the same way to grade. It looks like the building sits on top of a concrete pedestal. Is this because it's the shortest in the group and that it doesn't need the extra strength of steel to bedrock to support it?

Wait a minute, there were no highrise buildings on the east side of the origonal WTC site but there was an "East Bathtub".
There were basement levels under those low rise buildings.
This photo clearly shows the origonal slury wall built in the '60s running along the east side of the site. What took so long to get the towers 2 and 3 sites ready was the excavating and re-shuring of the existing slury walls.

^That was the old Hudson Terminal sublevels. It only covered half the area of the new excavation and didn't go as deep.

Ok, but is the slury wall along Vesey St origonal, it sure looks it. (What is to be the north side of the T2 site.)

I'm slightly lost here, I have no prints for T2,3 and 4.

I agree. The slurry wall along Vessey St. looks original. I mean its not as smooth as other parts of the site. Maybe weathering is responsible for the look of this part of the site? There seems to be visible marks of patching, etc on this side, correct me if I'm wrong.

The only part that was preexisting was ~50% of the eastern wall. If you look at the plans, it's actually pretty clear where the H&M sections are. The North and south are all new. However, I think they still did work underneath the old H&M walls, as the H&M terminal only went down to Elevation 264 (that number will probably only make sense to Zen) and I think the new tub is deeper than that.

A quick and dirty merge of WTC B4 and Plaza Levels

Those walls are new. We watched them get built, and afterwards the excavation of the site. It was a relatively quiet process (compared to everything else that was happening with the site) but it did happen. That Vesey St wall looks original because they are basically all the same.

East Bathtub Construction – This work will consist of the installation of a new slurry wall along Vesey Street between West Broadway and Church Street, Church Street between Vesey Street and Fulton Street, Church Street between Cortlandt Street/Way and Liberty Street, and along Liberty Street from Church Street to Greenwich Street. The new slurry wall will be designed to connect to a significant portion of the existing Hudson and Manhattan (H&M) Railroad basement wall along Church Street to create the full bathtub walls for the eastern portion of the WTC Site.
