Can't wait to see the completed 1 WTC from exactly that perspective, with Beekman in the foreground. It'll be one truly surreal, dreamlike image. Do you suppose reflections of Beekman will be visible in the 1 WTC glass from that vantage point?

If anything, it will take the concrete just as long, if not longer in this weather. I'm pretty sure it takes concrete longer to cure in cold weather.

I'm getting tired of that four letter word that begins with S.

Like the interior of a modern locomotive or a tank, the building will have a slight positive pressure no more than one or two psf above atmospheric though. Like the tank it's for NBC protection.

Now consider wind loads. Even 2 psf pushing out is nothing compared to say 45 psf pushing in. A 130mph wind would produce almost 1.5 tons of pressure on one 5 by 13' 4" panel. (The load would not be uniform across the entire surface of the building and forces on the leeward side could even cause negative pressure, trying to pull the glass out of it's frame.)

Very complex stuff, fluid dynamics.

NBC= Nuclear, Biological, Chemical.

Notice the thermal break. If it's 4 degrees outside and 70 degrees inside the thermal break keeps the aluminum mullion from being subjected to the two extremes . I'm sure the hot summer sun would produce much greater temperature differences. Also notice that the glass floats inside the frame, to allow for thermal expansion and flexing of the building and glass under wind loads.

OK, that's it ! I'm going to go teach that snow a lesson. The girls and I are off to do some X-country skiing. Oh bugger, I said the four letter word.

The X-country skiing had the desired effect, all the girls are taking a nap or a nice hot bath.

The top of the columns in the pics above are 4 feet above the 56th floor. Hopefully they can get the 55th and 56th floors framed out before the next snow storm.

This week does not look good for steel erection.

Wow, with the glass so far in the place on the first few floors, it already appears those floors are occupied (according to the pictures shot above). Only time will tell. 2013 is not far.

The tower itself was originally slated to be topped out in December 2011, but now they're saying January-February 2012.
