Great shots of Shanghai, New York, Chicago, and Toronto in that one post. However contrary to what I think the poster was trying to argue the Chicago and Toronto images make it seem as though the cities are pretty similar.

A few of them are really easy and a few are really hard.

Here's Montreal and Toronto, just for the hell of it.

Hong Kong - 36
New York - 69

Hong Kong, Shanghai and Chicago are closer to Toronto than they are to New York.

Toronto is closer to Chicago than it is to either Montreal or Calgary.

Toronto should therefore be compared to Chicago and Hong Kong
Montreal should go up against Calgary and Vancouver
Just to be accurate - Calgary has 3 towers over 200m now:
1. BOW
2. Suncor
3. 8th Ave. Place

(Plus the Bankers Hall twins which just miss at 197m )

Thanks for the love for Cowtown Caltrane.

Towers built or U/C over 100 metres (according to SSP database):

Shanghai: 709
New York: 695
Hong Kong: 598
Chicago: 297
Toronto: 189
Los Angeles: 69
Calgary: 56
Vancouver: 49
Montreal: 43
Seattle: 40

Seems to me that in terms of sheer scale Calgary/Montreal/Vancouver are to Toronto what Toronto is to New York/Hong Kong/Shanghai.
I think this is the most accurate comparison.
(For "Skylines" that is - not "Urban Fabric" or "Density").

Just my opinion.

#3 is not Kelowna, it is far too green and the towers are not tall enough.

Flar has no love for BC so none of them are from west of the divide, hehe.

But just for fun, here is one of my pics from Kelowna:

Cheers

Well I find that Burlington looks kinda like Kelowna

I had never actually seen a picture of Burlington's skyline

It shouldn't have even been called a Canadian Sampler, maybe an Ontario sampler would have been a better fit?

It's a lot easier to complain about the selection of photos than it is to actually travel around the country taking pictures and contribute them to the forum..

All the cities have been guessed correctly, just not all in the same post!

That was just the commie block district. Burlington has a decent skyline, here's the rest of it:

Metro-One, I have nothing against BC, I just haven't been fortunate enough to visit. Never been to Newfoundland either. There's a small chance I might be going to Vancouver in the spring, but I don't always have time for photography when I travel on business.
