When I first went to that Streetview link, I thought you had linked the wrong place and got the back end of a storage unit place. What is with the chain link fence that looks like it is waist high around the property?

What is uglier than a smartcentre? It is the banality that makes these places so hideous. Rather like the ubiquity of concrete slabs.

I guess I have to disagree with the tastes of several forumers, as I have become quite fond of brutalism in many (not all) cases. It doesn't even have any pretensions about form and function, it just tries to function and sometimes fails spectacularly.

All most all schools have their fences not that high, mostly to seperate a busy road with school property.

I tried using streetview to view the front of the school which isnt that bad but I couldnt.

I can't speak for others, but I'm also a fan of Brutalism when it's done right. U of T Scarberia provides a good example of this, for some reason I like the angles and design elements on this building:

The only thing I find particularly brutal about One Yonge is that they sacrificed some windows for that stupid logo (and I assume there was another stupid logo there before it)...

We use boulders in landscaping here, too.

My dad went to this school when it was in the public system. It's now a Catholic School.

No shortage of windows here.

None of our post-war high schools are really ugly enough to compete with the ones in Quebec or BC but they're not pretty, either.

This Longueuil high school (Gerard Filion) is ranked something like #400 in Quebec. The exterior is covered in faded tiles (mostly grey, but there are some wacky multicoloured ones too). The graduation rate is something ridiculous like 30%. A lot of locals instead try and send their kids to one of the many nearby private/semi-private schools (which aren't nearly as ugly). Gerard-Filion is humongous and is probably one of the ugliest I've ever seen.

I recognize some of the houses around 0:58; this was filmed around where my grandparents used to live. I'm tempted to say it's Warden Avenue near Finch, but since all the houses in Agincourt look the same, it could be anywhere in Northwest Scarberia.

EDIT: CONFIRMED, the houses look like they're on McNicoll Avenue just East of Warden. I can say this with almost absolute certainty; the architectural style is identical, distance from the street (factoring in the widening of McNicoll Avenue) is perfect, even the tacky purple siding is present.

An image's source can't be the URL of the image itself. You have to link the Flickr page itself, or you haven't given the photographer proper credit.

The video for Barenaked Ladie's cover of Lovers in a Dangerous Time was shot on the street my uncle lived on at the time. Every time it came on, someone would point it out.

He live in Oshawa now.

This is a great building. Reminds me of these rowhouses in London (UK).

There is a hotel similar to that at Disneyland in Orlando with a monorail running right through the middle.

I agree, I actually think this building looks kinda cool where it's built now.
